The Hymenophyllaceae of China were taxonomically revised, based on studies of about 2000 specimens of Hymenophyllaceae in PE having been examined by using stereoscopic zoom microscope and optical microscope, combining a lot of provincial floras and papers. The spores of 59 species of Hymenophyllaceae, belonging to 10 genera, were examined under scanning electron microscope (SEM). The morphologic features of the spores of each species were described in detail, especially regard to shape, size, laesural arms, wall ornamentation and so on, 219 SEM photos are shown in the paper.Seven characters ( rhizome, stipe, rachis, lamina, pinna, involucre, interval cells ) are used to study the Hymenophyllaceae of China. In this paper, sixteen genera, about sixty-seven species are recognized from China.Thirty-four scientific names are treated as synonyms. Among them, there are seven in Crepidomanes C. Presl: Crepidomanes dilatatum Ching & C. H. Wang, Crepidomanes paucinervium Ching, Crepidomanes latealatum (Bosch) Copel., Crepidomanes insigne (Bosch) Fu, Crepidomanes Chuii Ching & P. S. Chiu, Crepidomanes latifrons (Bosch) Ching, Crepidomanes smithiae Ching; five in Hymenophyllum J. Sm.: Hymenophyllum whangshanense Ching & P. S. Chiu, Hymenophyllum fastigiosum Christ, Hymenophyllum suprapaleaceum Ching, Hymenophyllum rufo-fibrillosum Ching & Z. Y. Liu, Hymenophyllum spinosum Ching; fifteen in Mecodium C. Presl: Mecodium crispatum (Wall.) Copel., Mecodium tenuifrons Ching, Mecodium prorinquum Ching & P. S. Chiu, Mecodium gongboense Ching, Mecodium longissimum Ching & P. S. Chiu, Mecodium osmundoides (Bosch) Ching, Mecodium acrocarpum (Christ) Ching, Mecodium microsorum (Bosch) Ching, Mecodium hainanense Ching, Mecodium wenshiense Ching & P. S. Chiu, Mecodium kansuense Ching & P. S. Chiu, Mecodium wangii Ching & P. S. Chiu, Mecodium paniculiflorum (C. Presl) Copel., Mecodium likiangense Ching & P. S. Chiu, Mecodium ovalifolium Ching & P. S. Chiu; one in Selenodesmium Copel.: Selenodesmium obscurum (Blume) Copel., five in Vandenboschia Copel.: Vandenboschia hainanensis Ching & P. S. Chiu, Vandenboschia orientalis (Christ) Ching, Vandenboschia assimilis Ching & P. S. Chiu, Vandenboschia naseana (Christ) Ching, Vandenboschia titibuensis H. Ito. One in CephalomanesC. Presl: Cephalomanes sumatranum (Alderw.) Copel.Based on the study of palynology, some conclusions are drawn as follows: spores tetrahedral and radiosymmetrical, triangular-circular, obtuse-triangular or subcircular in polar view, triangular-flabellate or nearly flabellate in equatorial view; trilete, rarely tetrlete; laesural arms long and thin, usually reaching the equator. Spore morphology among genera diverse mostly in size.
