Ciliated protozoa is the most complex and highly differentiated among single-celled organisms, of which some groups are closely related to occurrence of red-tide, bait-animal culture in aquaculture, disease of animal, water quality purification in polysaprobic environment, material cycle and energy flow in"micro-food-loop".This thesis is composed of two themes on periphytic ciliates from coastal waters off Qingdao: Taxonomy and Ecology.Species classification: From May 2004 to November 2005, periphytic ciliates were collected from coastal waters off Qingdao, using glass slides as artificial substrate allowing ciliate colonization. The morphology and infraciliature of 27 species representing 3 classes, 8 orders and 23 genera were investigated using living observation and silver impregnation methods. The results of species identification and classification are summarized as follows:(1) 11 species of suctorid ciliates: Acineta tuberosa, Acineta foetida, Acineta compressa, Conchacineta complatana, Actinocyathula crenata, Paracineta limbata, Paracineta patula, Loricophrya parva, Paramucophrya semisphaerica, Ephelota mammillata, Ephelota gemmipara. A new genus Paramucophrya nov. gen. was established and a new species Paramucophrya semisphaerica was described, the others were forst records in China. The detailed descriptions of budding reproductions of Acineta tuberosa and Ephelota gemmipara were given.(2) 16 species of periphytic ciliates: Litonotus paracygnus, Acineria incurvata, Amphileptus gui, Loxophullum sp, Stephanopogon minuta, Orthodonella armata, Chlamydonellopsis calkinsi, Chlamydonella pseudochilodon, Trochilia petrani, Licnophora lyngbycola, Stentor auriculatus, Gastrocirrhus adhaerens, Pseudokeronopsis qingdaoensis, Thigmokeronopsis rubra, Hemigastrosyla enigmatica, Zoothamnium sp. The infraciliature of Stentor auriculatus was revealed for the first time. The others were redescribed based on the Qingdao population.Ecology: From May 2005 to November 2005, environmental parameters investigated including water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, nitrite-nitrogen,...
