The Study Of The Current Situation Of The Experiments On Animals In Shanxi And The Analysis Of Its Dynamic Development

Objective: It is the essential part of the scientific study of the modern life to try the experiments on the animals. It is the foundation and the vital supporting condition. The result experiment and safety evaluation cannot exist without experimenting animals—a living"precision instrument". The development and the degree in application of the science experiment on animals are one of the marks in the measure of levels of the science and technology in a region or a country. Now, the science of experiments on animals are more concerned and attended by the scientists and the governments of the countries in the world. Therefore, it is very significant in economic development and scientific progress in Shanxi province to set up a reasonable and feasible program for the development of animal experiments, after knowing the present level and speed of the development of the animal experiments in Shanxi province, by adroitly guiding action according to circumstances.Method: We visited the units who are trying the animal experiments in Shanxi, filled in the inquiry form and carried out the on-the-spot testing of the checked and accepted facilities by the method of general checking. The comparison was made with the inquiry result in 2000.Result:1. The units engaged in the animal experiments in Shanxi province amounts to 29 in 2005,with 2 units less than that of 2000. The units are , in terms of fields, colleges and universities, research institutes, checking institutes, corporations of medical production, medical institutions, etc., among which the corporations of medical production are the most. Units are, in terms of regions, distributed in Taiyuan, Datong, Yuncheng, Changzhi, Jinzhong, Jincheng and so on.2. The total number of the animals used in experiments is 133,000, in which 21,000 is more than that of 2000, among which the mice reduces 20,000. The quantity of other types of animals has dramatically increased. According to the national rules and regulations, parts of units experiment with the permitted animals, for which, however, the quantity cannot go beyond the 40% of the total number.3. The number of the engaged members is greatly decreasing, among which the experimenting members are slightly increasing and the checking members are greatly reducing. Since the professional people were trained for the animal experiments by the Department of Science and Technology in2002, 182 members have been trained, and 168 members have got the certificate for job. The qualities of the members have been apparently improved compared with those of 2000.4. In 2000, the environmental facilities added up to 50, among which 6 are ordinary ones for experimenting animals based on the national standards, and 2 are the protectively environmental facilities. By December of 2005, there had been 49 environmental facilities for registering the experimented animals, 38 environmental facilities for experimenting animals based on the present standards, 21 ordinary environmental facilities and 17 present environmental facilities. Among them, 12 ordinary environmental facilities used by 11 units, 9 have been checked and accepted.
