This thesis focuses on the integration of computer cartography, data structure and the principle of urban planning to discuss some key techniques on construction of urban road basic database, e.g. road code, data structure and data renewal. A pattern on road coding was advanced to solve the Relative Overflow caused by data maintenance. Road data are stratified into two layers to abstract data and to put forward a better data structure for them, which make it possible to expand the data structure according to the demands from different management departments. Furthermore, the algorithm on data renewal and historical data management was devoted. So, these techniques will play an important role in construction of urban road base database and urban information system.
