There are lots of chaos phenomena in real word. Knowledge on chaos is one of important achievements in nonlinear science. With the further research of chaos, chaos control and synchronization becomes an advanced research field. In this thesis, the problem of the chaos synchronization and its application to secure communication is studied deeply and widely. The detail is clarified as follews: Firstly of all, the dissertation discusses systematically basic concepts of chaos: definition, main feature, the way to chaos and the significance and the respect of chaos are investigated briefly; the strange attractor, Lyapunov exponent, Lyapunove function, and Lorenz systems are introduced too. Our main aim is to establish foundation in order to research chaos synchronization systematically and profoundly. Secondly, the paper discussed chaos synchronization. The main results are (1) the methods to obtain synchronization: Pceora-Carroll synchrozization, driving-response synchronization, feedback synchronization, self-adapt synchronization and couple synchronization. We also introduce the way that chaos synchronization is put into use and point out some problems should be solved. (2) The definition of hyperchaotic synchronization. Synchronization method can be induced to hyperchaotic synchronization and control. Finally the progress on secure communication with chaos synchronization in the near last decade is surveyed. The main synchronization methods on secure communication applied are introduced. At last some problems of chaotic synchronization in secure communications are studied.
