Due to the rapid development of urban traffic system, the management of roads and other traffic facilities need to be improved immediately. In recent years, Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) has drawn much more attention from around the world. The astonishing technological evolution of Internet, WebGIS, and spatial database has already provided us the possibility of acquiring, publishing, sharing, and serving the resources of spatial information. As a result, it is widely believed that applying the technique of Geographic Information System (GIS) to the construction and supervision of urban traffic will extensively boost the modernization and Informationization of the traffic system.This thesis which emphasizes on the spatial database techniques of urban traffic GIS, has mainly conducted the research of the following aspects:1. Research and application of integrated management of spatial data and attribute dataThis thesis has studied spatial database technique based on the Objective-Relational Database Management System. Combined with the practial application in the development of urban traffic GIS, this thesis has used Oracle Spatial to realize the integrated management of spatial data and attribute data.2. Technology of spatial data management structureIn order to realize the consistency and integrity when the traffic information is published in the LAN and Internet, this thesis has set up a spatial data management structure from both client server and browser server, built the spatial database of road and other traffic facilities and provide the module of web information publishing with reliable data source. In the Web end, we have provided users with the road information and supportive decision-making function.3. Traffic network topology modelTo be consisted with the realistic traffic network, a network topological model of spatial data has been proposed, which can be revised in real-time when the roads' condition affected by traffic signs changes. The published information is more exact as the result.4. Research of spatial query algorithm in urban traffic GISAccording to the characteristic of traffic information, this thesis has implemented an improved algorithm of shortest route search based on the heuristic expense model, which promotes the query speed. An NN algorithm based on R_tree has also presented in this thesis.All the techniques mentioned above has been applied to design and implementation of an urban traffic GIS, which can facilitate the traffic management and the information publishing. The results demonstrate that the presented system reach the goal of design. This study has important reference value and application expectation to the informationization of urban traffic management.
