The originator of the term philosophy of technology is believed to be Ernst Kapp. In 1877, Ernst Kapp published a book entitled "Grundlinien einer Philosophic der Technik". He referred to the term of "organ-projection" in this book, that is man made tools and other objects often have structural and/or functional similarities to parts of the human body.He applied the term of "organ-projection" to technical phenomenon what had been known then. For example, an axe or scissors had to be interpreted as projections of the hand and fingers, eyes were projected in a daguerreotype and nerves in cables, the state e.g. as a projection of the human body. He believed that not only mechanical techniques like tools or machines, but also language, science and the state were organ-projection.Nowadays, it is still important to reflect on organ-projection theory combined with modern high-tech with today's rapid development of technology.
