From the late 20th century, embedded technology has presented the latest trend of communication and consumer electronics products. Embedded Geography Information System (Embedded GIS) is an integration of embedded products and GIS, and a combination of embedded software and embedded hardware. It is an ideally solution of navigation, location, geography information query and spatial data management for mobile users.Due to the low computing ability of embedded system, the design of hardware and software for embedded GIS differs a lot from the ordinary personal computer system. The software must be pruned and optimized according to the speciality of embedded GIS system. In addition, the hardware resources need to be fully utilized. The research in the thesis covers the embedded system hardware design, embedded system software design, uCLinux operating system, architecture of NAND Flash, development of Framebuffer device driver, development of Nand Flash device driver and embedded system debug technique etc.Firstly, it is introduced that the embedded technology status quo, technology background and difficulty it confronts. Moreover, we devise a low-cost embedded GIS system solution including hardware platform design and software platform design, then detailed introduce the procedure of uCLinux pruning, porting and development of device driver, where the development of Framebuffer&NandFlash device driver is detailed. Finally, as to the increasing maturity of embedded development, we share our debugging technique in embedded developing.
