Photonic crystal was presented as a new concept and a new type of artificial microstructure material which is characteristic of photonic band-gap(PBG) structures in 1987. A typical photonic crystal is an object whose refractive index changes periodically. One-dimensional (ID) photonic crystal is the basic configuration in which the refractive index is spatially modulated in 1D. 1D photonic crystal can be made easily due to its simple structure and has the properties of 2D and 3D photonic crystals. These novel optical materials will probably be crucial components in the field of optical communication, so the relevant theoretical researches are valuable and wide application perspectives are expected. The thesis begins with the structure features and mainly discusses the optical characteristics of photonic forbidden band and defect mode in finite-period 1D photonic crystals. It is derived that reflectivity, reflective phase and transmission of random-structure 1D photonic crystal change with angle of incidence by the method of characteristic matrix. The thesis explains the concept of full photonic bandgap. The tight relation between the full photonic bandgap in 1D photonic crystals and their structure and refractivities is analyzed according to the computational results. The modulation of crystals structure to the reflective phases is also discussed in high reflectivity. The light wave propagation in ID photonic crystals with defects is analyzed by numeral simulated calculation. There become defect modes in the photonic forbidden band compare with the crystals without defects. The position, amount and transmission of defect modes are great related with not only the form of defect but also the optical thickness, refractive index, position of defect and periodicity of crystals. Modulation of incidence angle to single defect mode is investigated on the basis of the research. In addition, the coupling action between multi-defect modes is studied.Fu Ling-li (Optics) Direced by Chen Wei-zong...
