| The wide application of GIS cannot lack the support of GIS software. This paper aimed at solving the problems which GIS software has encountered, made a first step on research and application of Component GIS that is a new trend of GIS software's development. Component GIS make it is possible that the development of GIS software is the same way as the method of industry-produce. The method of setup GIS components can effectively improve the GIS software's quality, consistency, reuse, and maintenance. A new GIS application system can be quickly built by the component of GIS software, which makes the factory-product of software became possible.The paper is consisted of five parts.In the first part, the author analyzed the background of the research, the significance of the research and the trend in the world, and then a simple introduction of the total content has been presented.In the second part, the author studied the development of GIS and its software. Combined the theory of software' reuse, he specified the problems in the way of GISdevelopment and got a solution------Based on component to develop GIS softwareand application system. To develop component GIS radically solve the problem on the way of GIS progress, which is a new trend in today's development of software.In the third part, the author give the base of technique of Component GIS, make a detail on the born of component and the structure of component, put forward the definition of the component according to the author's understand, study the process of component-based development. For a conclusion, the author discussed three main technique of developing component and made a comparison.In the fourth part, the author applied the theory of component GIS into the practice, made a step in its practice. One of the practices is the application of Component GIS on Web service. Based on Component GIS, the author developed a project in the Internet. United the project- Shanghai component library of State's 863 project, the author designed some components and send them to the library. Among these components, two components had been awarded. Another practice is on the base of the first one. In this practice, the author made a step on component and applied component on mobile communication. United the project of Shanghaitechnique's tackle key problem------The key technique of Application server systemof Special information mobile user, the author successfully applied the developedcomponents into program which run on two servers, integrated application system on the base of two different GIS components. It is powerful verification that GIS component is reusable. Also in this practice, the author worked together with other people at the tutor's guidance and made an invention patent: An intelligent body of Spatial information (NO: 200410017665.X). By the two practices, the author draw a conclusion that the Component GIS is an effective method to solve the problems in the road of development of GIS software.In the last part, the author summed up the paper's research, brought forward the next step that Component GIS should do.The paper's creative points are: Presented personal understand and standpoint on the Component GIS; Solved the problems in the GIS software by the conception of Component GIS software engineering; United two techniques -ActiveX/COM and JAVA, successfully developed components and applied them to the GIS application system; Practically applied the Component GIS technique to the area of Mobile communication.
