The Finite Element Method (FEM) is one of the major numerical methods in computational electromagnetics. Due to its versatility and flexibility, the FEM is capable of modeling complicated structures as well as inhomogeneous materials. When solving electromagnetic (EM) scattering problem with the FEM, the infinite region exterior to the scatterer must be truncated by a fictitious boundary. For most applications in this paper, this truncation boundary-the Perfectly Matched Layer(PML) is adopted for the analysis of two dimensional scattering problem. We compare the absorbing ability between Absorbing Boundary Condition (ABC) and Perfectly Matched Layer (PML), and we also discuss deeply on the application condition and parameter setting of PML.Several examples are analyzed, the results compared to those obtained by other authors show the validity and accuracy of this method.
