This thesis discusses the techniques and methods regarding monitoring land use dynamic at a county level based on change detection technigue of remote sensing, data updating and analysis based on GIS,and temporal database managerment based on RDBMS. The above methods and techniques were applied to the case in Changle County's land use changes from 1998 to 2000.Three satellite images, i.e. two from TM or ETM+ and one from SPOT scenes, were used. Land use change areas were determined using the two change detection techniques of post-classification comparison and spectrum comparison. The resultant change images obtained by the two change detection methods were overlaied to obtain more accurate change information. The analysis of the change information indicates that land use in Changle have changed greatly in the study period. The land use change mainly occurred in paddy field, forest, dry land and barren land. The paddy field and forest significantly decreased, while the dry land, barren land and built-up land gradually increased. The further analysis of the change data shows that degree of land use in the study area was still in the developing stage during the year from 1998 to 2000.Based on the object-oriented technique, this study defines four types of geographical event, i.e. expansivity, contraction, rebirth and vanishment events for management of land use data. And it further designed an object-superposition data updating model based on the land use feature of point, line and polygon, which would take the advantage of the GIS overlay function to effectly implement of updating spatial and attribute data . Temporal database of land use was used to manage increment data in effect and to retrieve the historical data of land use by the method of plot flow. The land management information system of Changle has several effective and convenient tools to manage and updata land use data. It improves the capability of land use management for the county .
