Land use change survey with remote-sensed imagery has been one of the important methods for the land manage apartment to understand and accommodate land resources, and has attracted universal attention. Now change detection techniques such as image arithmetic differencing, change vector analysis, vegetation index differencing, PCA analysis, post-classification comparison method, and so on, are widely used, but their ability are limited. In the land use map-updating field, manual work has been the main way, which quantitative and automatic level of change detection is not high. After discussing change detection techniques that are widely used in remote sensing community, this paper mainly researches change detection method based on land use spans. The land use span is expressed by vector polygon along with raster region. First the spectrum feature databank with histogram, texture and shape feathers of the spans is formed. Then, the spans are classified and their change types were judged. Finally, the change spans are updated by a vector-raster-integralcd method. Meanwhile, the key techniques during this processing, such as vector-raster overlaying and co-translating, span classifying, change information abstracting, change spans updating, are achieved by Visual C++ program.Due to the abundant textural features and better anti-jamming ability, the land use span based change detection method is presented in this paper. And the integrating raster with vector technology predigests the polygon overlaying operation, realizes inner span part vectorizing and speed up the process.
