The general design method at present usually doesn't consider the pump station , pipe system and sprinkler as a whole system ,this cause the design unreasonable and the net benefit is not optimal. The developed model consists of the annual cost of the pumping plant, piping system, installation cost, maintenance and operating cost, which all represents the total cost and the gross income of the irrigated area . The objective function is framed on the annual net benefit basis. This paper presents design method which, given a net work configuration, will compute the pipe size, length, pumping capacity etc. That maximizes the net in come while satisfying the demand requirements of the crops and uniformity of application. The developed model is constrained non - linear programming problem. To maximize developed non - linear constrained function, the approach of transforming the constrained problem in to unconstrained one which can be solved by available unconstrained maximization algorithms, that is the concept sequential unconstrained minimization technique (SUMT) is used. The developed model determine:1. The pipe sizes and length2. Pump station capacity3. The maximum net income of sprinkler irrigation areaA computer program using Fortran - 77 is written for the available algorithm, which determine, design parameter such as pipe sizes and pipe length, and also pumping capacity, total cost, net income etc.In addition, the paper also covers theoretical back ground for sprinkler irrigation system design. Finally the developed computer program and algorithm were applied to actual design problem at Feng Xian irrigation site . in china Jiangsu province Feng Xian county, and the results Ms that the mode and method are reasonable andtwcat.
