Research And Practice On Experiments Of Electronic Maps

At the end of 20th century, cartography took place enormous technical revolution with the application of automatization, computer and remote sensing into cartography, which produced further infection on the development of electronic map in the whole cartography. Comparing with the traditional paper map, electronic map is not only provided with dynamic quality in the representation form by data storage and denotation, but also provided with more abundant and visual content by multi-media and visibility. It is the change of form that there are many differences in display usage, information carrier and expression effect between the two types of map. But the user is forever the final service-object of map, and determines the transmission-effect all along. For all above, we should regard the map user as the start-and-end of the research on cartographic theory. It is for the separation between map-making and map-using that the research on cartography only pays more attention to technical renovation of map-making, and that ignores the research on map-using. So the article is about the research on electronic map experiment by using the method of psychological experiment, and just on the start of that map researchers should consider the designing problems based on map user.The author did many relative studies about the experiment method of electronic map. Firstly, the author analyzed the correlative experiment method of psychological experiment and statistical analysis method of experiment data, and how to apply them in the research on cartographic theory of paper map. Secondly, he discussed the currently existing problems of the experiment method of electronic map and primary content of experiment. He put forward the key problems of experiment designing of electronic map from the point of psychological experiment, and then put forward the experiment method and statistical analysis method of experiment data according to the difference between paper map and electronic map and the character of electronic map experiment. Thirdly, he developed a experiment flat roof of electronic map which realized part of experiment methods, development of statistical methods and statistical analysis. He put forward the basic ground rule and flow of research on electronic map experiment. Then he put them into practice in order to check up the feasibility and scientificalness. At last, he summarized the study production and gave out the further research content and direction.
