The Graphidaceae belongs to Ostropales, Ostropomycetidae, Lecanoromycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota and Dikarya under the kingdom Fungi. The genera and the family are characterized by crustose thalli, elongate and wirelike ascocarps, hymenium with parallel parphyses as well as the ascospore with trasverse or muriform septa. The classification of genera within the family had been made only by spore characteristics since the establishment of the genera. The genera, studied by the author in the dissertation, Diorygma Eschw., Dyplolabia A. Massal., Fissurina Fée, Graphis Adans., Hemithecium Trevis., Leiorreuma Eschw., Phaeographis Müll. Arg., Platygramme Fée, Platythecium Staiger, Thalloloma Staiger and Thecaria Fée of the family, were reported from Hainan according to the Müller Agoviensis's System, but the system of Staiger is more widely accepted at present. A comprehensive characters for classification of the genera for the family have been proposed in recent studies and it is necessary for the author to research those specific of the family according to the new system. The present studies are based on materials collected by the author and other associates in Hainan island, which are conserved in the Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae - Lichenes (HMAS-L) and the Lichen Herbarium of the College of Life Sciences in Shandong Agricultural University (LHS).The examination for the genera is made through the morphology, anatomy, chemistry, geography and ecology based on the comprehensive concept. Thirty nine species belonging to the following eleven genera: Diorygma (6 species), Dyplolabia (1 species), Fissurina (3 species), Graphis (10 species), Hemithecium (5 species),Leiorreuma (1 species),Phaeographis (6 species),Platygramme (1 species),Platythecium (2species),Thalloloma (2species),and Thecaria (2 species),are reported in this thesis. Among them 12 species are new to China: Diorygma hololeucum (Mont.) Kalb, Staiger&Elix, Hemithecium implicatum (Fée) Staiger, Leiorreuma melanostalazans (leight.) A. W. Archer, Phaeographis wilsonii (A. W. Archer) A. W. Archer, Phaeographis tortuosa (Ach.) Müll.Arg., Phaeographis platycarpa Müll.Arg., Phaeographis dendroides (Leight.) M?ll. Arg., Platygramme muelleri (A. W. Archer) Staiger, Platythecium leiogramma (Nyl.) Staiger, Platythecium serpentinellum (Nyl.) Staiger, Thalloloma halonatum Staiger and Thalloloma hypoleptum (Nyl.) Staiger. Key traits of each species are given in the thesis. Each species are provided with detailed descriptions, and the discussion between each species are also provided. The geographical analysis of the taxa in the thesis showed that they belong to six geographical elements: Tropical element (13 species), Tropical-American and Tropical-Asian element (11 species), Tropical-Asian to Tropical-Oceanian element (4 species), Tropical-Asian element (2 species), Palaeotropical element(7 species), and Neotropical and Palaeotropical element (2 species). The data and information gained from this study should be helpful to the further systematic research of Graphidaceae as well as the research on the diversity of lichenised fungi in the future, and redound upon the compilation of the Flora Lichenum Sinicorum.
