| With the booming development and comprehensive empowerment of digital technology,digital enterprises have become the fastest growing and most widely radiated digital innovation carrier,driving high-quality socio-economic development.The complex and dynamic digital innovation environment has blurred industrial boundaries and profoundly changed the competitive landscape,creating unprecedented development opportunities for digital enterprises.At the same time,digital enterprises face the dual challenges of resource exploitation and value occupation.The ecological niche,which reflects the relative resource advantage and functional positioning of an enterprise,is a crucial conceptual tool to address these challenges.Among the many capabilities,dynamic capabilities are considered to be key to the integrated allocation of resources in the digital environment and are an effective means by which the eco niche can be constructed and transformed into a competitive advantage.However,although existing studies have separately explored the mechanisms by which ecological niche and dynamic capabilities contribute to firm performance,they have neglected the matching of ecological niche and dynamic capabilities in digital enterprises.Research on ecological niche focuses on the association of ecological niche with innovation capability and network capability.Research on dynamic capabilities has mostly been conducted based on theoretical contexts with clear boundaries and static perspectives,focusing on the matching of resources within the firm and the impact of the frequency of environmental changes.In addition,previous studies have constructed evaluation indicators in traditional innovation environments,but they cannot be adapted to the needs of digital enterprises.Therefore,on the basis of industry convergence theory,ecological niche theory and dynamic capability theory,this paper systematically analyses the literature on digital enterprises,ecological niche,dynamic capability and enterprise performance,constructs a theoretical framework of "ecological niche-dynamic capability" matching,and reveals the advantageous combination of ecological niche and dynamic capability matching for digital enterprises in a complex and dynamic industry convergence environment.The feasibility of the study was verified through the analysis of data from listed Chinese digital companies.The research is carried out in two steps: firstly,the analysis of industry convergence cycles and patterns reveals the unique industrial development pattern of China under digital empowerment and builds a theoretical context for the research.Then,based on a grouping perspective,the path of how digital enterprises can match ecological niche and dynamic capabilities to sustain high enterprise performance is explored in conjunction with ecological niche and dynamic capabilities theory.The four main studies include the following:(1)study on the cycle and pattern of industrial convergence under digital empowerment based on crosstextual similarity;(2)enterprise ecological niche measurement and distribution based on digital business identification;(3)dynamic capabilities comprehensive evaluation study of digital enterprises based on TOPSIS-Grey Relation Analysis;(4)study of ecological niche and dynamic capability adaptation grouping of digital enterprises based on multi-stage fs QCA.The research results show that:(1)digitally enabled industry convergence can be divided into the formation period(2012-2013),the growth period(2014-2017)and the maturity period(2018-2020),where industry convergence begins to budding in the formative period,deepens in the growth period and is greatest in the maturity period;(2)the ecological niche of digital enterprises on the coordinate system is triangular distribution,which can be divided into symbiotic,compression,dislocation and expansion;(3)the dynamic capability evaluation index system of digital enterprises consists of thirteen proxy variables,among which digital enterprise subsidies and digital technology applications have an important impact on the construction of dynamic capability of enterprises;(4)individual ecological niche elements and dynamic capability elements are not necessary for high firm performance;they work in conjunction with each other for firm performance.;(5)there are eight paths of matching ecological niche and dynamic capabilities that generate high performance in digital enterprises,which can be categorized as capability-dominant,niche-dominant and niche-capability complementary.This study aims to reveal the effective paths of matching ecological niche and dynamic capabilities in digital enterprises,which is an extension and deepening of the theory of ecological niche and dynamic capabilities and provides theoretical reference for the management practice of digital enterprises.The main contributions are:(1)combining data from the science and technology side and the market side to verify the unique law of industry convergence development under digital empowerment;(2)expanding the theory of ecological niche and dynamic capability to achieve effective measurement of ecological niche and dynamic capability of digital enterprises;(3)breaking through the single perspective of existing studies,revealing the process of matching ecological niche and dynamic capability from a group perspective;(4)in contrast to studies from a static perspective,industry convergence is used as a theoretical context to reveal the dynamic evolution of the digital enterprise’s ecological niche and dynamic capability matching. |
