With the development of Internet technology, the open source collaborative R&D mode has gradually become the mainstream in the field of computer software R&D.As a phenomenon in the field of software R&D,it has been studied more maturely both in the field of software R&D and in the related fields such as intellectual property, business model and open innovation. However,if we consider open source products as a part of an industrial market and view open source technology from the perspective of industrial economics or industrial organization theory, there are still many problems to be solved in the rapid development of open source R&D mode. For example, why does the open source model gradually become the mainstream model of technology R&D? Why do open source products gradually take advantage in some kinds of markets? Is the openness of open source products the more the better? Can the open source R&D model be extended to other technical fields? If it can be expanded, what characteristics do other technical fields need? In fact, the focus on open source technology in the economic research field started late, and more focused on the microeconomic field, mainly focusing on the motivation and incentive of individuals or enterprises to participate in open source technology R&D.However, the research on open source technology from the perspective of industrial economics remains to be further enriched. The current research results are mainly based on giving some research direction hints about open source technology and preliminary market equilibrium analysis about open source product, which cannot completely solve the problems raised above. On the basis of existing research, this thesis attempts to further use Logit model, general equilibrium theory and supply-side network effect to conduct theoretical and empirical research on the open source technology R&D mode and specifically solve the above problems, and finally put forward policy recommendations to promote the development of open source technology. This thesis first describes the basic concepts of open source technology and describes its characteristics, and then conducts a literature study on the research methods and theories used, including network effects, collaborative R&D theory, duopoly competition equilibrium model, etc. At the same time,it also reviews the classic literature related to open source technology. On this basis, this thesis uses Logit model,two-stage game model and network effect model to establish a theoretical research framework for analyzing open source R&D mode.Through theoretical analysis, this thesis concludes that the reason why open source products gradually occupy an advantage in the market is that,in addition to their own open source characteristics, network effect is an important promoting factor. Moreover, when the market enters the low cost stage, the network effect in the open source model can play a stronger role,so that all enterprises in the market will ultimately choose the open source model. From this,we can also infer that when the entry cost of an industry market is low,it is more conducive to the promotion and application of the open source model. Then, this thesis selects a combination product market, which includes a kind of closed source personal computer and a kind of operating system with open-source potential,as the research object, and based on the market share data of operating systems,as well as the number of enterprises participating in the R&D of operating systems, quantificationally verifies the conclusions obtained from the previous theoretical analysis, and further demonstrates the market characteristics when the market is balanced. It also demonstrates that when the market enters a low cost stage, the network effect is conducive to promoting open source enterprises to gain greater market competitive advantage.Subsequently,to provide further theoretical support for the final policy recommendations, this thesis conducts a theoretical analysis of the total social welfare considering the network effect, and proposes that the government’s policy support for open source enterprises is not only conducive to the development of open source enterprises and open source products, but also conducive to promoting the maximization of the total social welfare and other conclusions. Finally, based on the above theoretical and empirical analysis conclusions, this thesis summarizes and puts forward targeted policy recommendations. In addition,in the field of open source technology, there are still many fields worth studying, especially when we consider the industrial economics and industrial organization theory. In the end, this thesis places some relevant basic research achievements at the end, waiting for further research. To sum up,this thesis conducts a general equilibrium analysis on the product market containing open source products and creatively considers the impact of supplyside network effects.Through empirical analysis,it proves the relevant conclusions and solves the problem of why open source technologies can continue to grow and open source products can continue to gain market competitive advantages, more openness is not always better for open source technology and open source product, and open source R&D models are easier to apply to industries with low market entry costs.Based on the above, this thesis has a certain degree of theoretical significance and practical value to propose targeted policy recommendations, which also lays a solid foundation for further research.
