| The hospitality industry plays a vital role in almost every country’s economy.The hospitality sector is a massively profitable business in any developing country and is also an emerging industry.Globalization is bringing more challenging to the hospitality industry,which means more demand of talented employees.Although some countries are good at self-improvement,Pakistan is still needed to do some serious work in this area.The hotel industry is characterized by a work environment in which polychronicity is required among multiple tasks on a frequent basis.The study aims to present a comprehensive view of relationships among variables polychronicity,work engagement,perceived organizational support,job embeddedness,job performance,and turnover intention in the hospitality industry.Based on theoretical supports of this research,person-organization fit(P-o-Fit theory),organizational support theory,and job embeddedness theory.The hospitality business is described by a rigorous work-related environment.When polychronicity is considered,the ability to switch back and forth between various tasks within a particular time period becomes essential in the hospitality business.This study explores the relationship among polychronicity,work engagement,job performance,and turnover intentions in the hospitality sector.Work engagement mediates the relationship between the variables as mentioned above.The study examines the individuals’ preferences for carrying out several tasks simultaneously in a given time block.Moreover,this study illuminates one of the critical concerns in organizational research to the extent of perceived organizational support,polychronicity affecting employees’ engagement,job performance,and turnover intention in the hotel industry.Based on person-organization fit(P-o-Fit theory)and perceived organizational theory,the study examines the buffering effects of perceived organizational support(POS)on employees’ work engagement and turnover intention.This study confirms that perceived organizational support plays a vital role in the hotel industry.On the other hand,it is also analyzed that there is a buffering effect of perceived organizational support on the relationship between polychronicity and work engagement and decreased turnover.Moreover,the results show that polychronic employees with a high perceived organizational support can handle multitasking behavior to cope with turnover intention.In addition,based on job embeddedness theory,this study is a two-mediator sequential mediation chain in which the mediators are sequentially related.This research explores the sequentially mediating roles of job engagement and job embeddedness and the relationship between polychronicity and turnover intention of hotel employees.Nevertheless,this relationship has not been well established,and the studies have examined several contingencies that might sequentially mediate this relationship.A sample of respondents was arranged as full-time employees working in different positions in the hospitality sector in Pakistan.The PLS-SEM was utilized to analyze the hypotheses and determine the indirect impact of mediation and moderation on the performance measures.The results emphasized that polychronic employees with a high level of perceived organizational support with job engagement and job embeddedness can handle multitasking,reduce employee turnover intentions,and increase job performance.Finally,this study supports theoretical,practical implications,and valuable recommendations for managers and scholars in the hospitality industry.The findings of the study will help hotel managers in candidate selection who are best suited to multitasking under pressure.The study recommendations may attract the policymakers of hospitality management must devise an effective approach to reduce employee turnover and improve performance. |
