The current international situation and the trend of globalization require all countries to face the competition and challenge from the global perspective.As the future builders of our country,international perspective and local cultural identity of the college students are both very important.College students’ international perspective directly affects China’s future international competitiveness and international status,and their sense of local cultural identity also directly affects their sense of responsibility and mission for national development.However,current studies tell that the internationalization of our country has caused the confusion and decline of college students’ local cultural identity.Starting from the new problems and new challenges of cross-cultural education facing the current talent cultivation,this study investigates the current situation of college students’ international perspective and local cultural identity,explores the relationship between them,analyses the factors affecting their relationship,and then puts forward measures to improve the existing educational methods,so that college students can have strong international competitiveness and enough national self-confidence on China’s way forward to become a qualified force to realize Chinese Dream.At present,there are adequate literatures on international perspectives and local cultural identity of college students at home and abroad.Scholars mostly focus on one aspect of the two,namely,international perspective or local cultural identity,few literatures focusing on the relationship between the two.The research idea of this study is as follows:Firstly,by combing the domestic and foreign research literature on college students’ international perspective and local cultural identity,the relevant concepts are defined,and the theoretical model of the relationship between college students’international perspective and local cultural identity is constructed.Secondly,basing on the previous research findings and measurement tools,an evaluation scale suitable for this study was developed to measure college students’ international perspective and local cultural identity.Thirdly,3,300 college students from 10 colleges and universities covering the four levels of higher vocational colleges,colleges and universities,211-Project Key Universities and 985-Project Key Universities are surveyed.3,011 valid questionnaires are collected,and the effective collection rate is 91.2%.This study analyzes the current status of college students’ international perspective and local cultural identity,and discusses the relationship between the two and its influencing factors from the aspects of personal background,growth environment and school education.Lastly,based on the questionnaire findings,it proposes countermeasures and suggestions to promote the coordinated development of college students’ international perspective and local cultural identity.In this study,international perspective of college students refers to the knowledge,competence and attitude of college students to understand the laws and conditions of the entire world.For the design of measurement scale,it includes three dimensions:knowledge,competence and attitude.Local cultural identity of college students is a cultural consensus and recognition of individual college students in a particular country.nation and society.It is a sense of belonging and loyalty of college students to their own cultural environment.Its essence is to form self-confidence and self-consciousness of the mainstream of a particular society and its excellent national culture.In the sense of measurement,college students’ local cultural identity includes three dimensions:cultural emotion,cultural behavior and cultural confidence.Basing on the previous study,this research constructs a theoretical model of the relationship between international perspective and local cultural identity of college students,the relationship between the two could be divided into six types:isolation parallel,development parallel,separation synergy,output synergy,input synergy and integration synergy.The connotation of this model demonstrates that relationship between the two is related to college students’ attitudes towards foreign culture,and is also affected by their cognitive level towards foreign culture and local culture.College students’ attitudes towards foreign cultures can mainly be divided into four types:isolation,onlookers,openness and concern.Students who are isolated and onlookers from foreign cultures tend to have a lower level of understanding of Chinese and foreign cultures,the relationship between international perspective and local cultural identity can be divided into isolation parallel and development parallel.Students who are open to and concerned about foreign culture tend to have a higher level of understanding of Chinese and foreign cultures,the relationship between the two is more coordinated.Due to the different level of college students’ Chinese and foreign cultural awareness,the relationship can be classified into four types:separation synergy,output synergy,input synergy and integration synergy.Isolation parallel refers to the fact that college students have little knowledge and shallow thinking about foreign cultures,narrow international perspective and weak local cultural identity.This type of college students think that international perspective and local cultural identity are independent,so their foreign cultural knowledge does not affect their identification with local culture.Development parallel refers to the fact that college students have general understanding and shallow thinking about foreign cultures,moderate international perspective and relatively weak local cultural identity.This type of college students hold a standby attitude towards foreign culture,and foreign cultural knowledge and local cultural knowledge are in a state of parallel development and non-interference.Separation synergy refers to the fact that college students have better understanding and deep thinking about foreign culture,broader international perspective and strong identification with local culture.This type of college students think that foreign culture and local culture have their own merits,and different cultures interact with each other,but have less influence on each other and retain their own characteristics.Output synergy refers to the fact that college students have better understanding and deep thinking about foreign cultures,but have narrow international perspective and strong local cultural identity.This type of college students think that their local culture is very strong and can leave some hints in the foreign culture,yet not affected by the imported culture.Input synergy refers to the fact that college students have better understanding and deep thinking about foreign culture,have broad international perspective,but weak local cultural identity.This type of college students think that their local culture is backward,and there are many marks of foreign culture in their cultural identity.They are more eager for foreign culture.Integration synergy means that college students know more and think deeply about foreign cultures,have broad international perspective,and also have a strong level of local cultural identity.This type of college students think that local culture and foreign culture are integrated,infiltrated and developed together.They are more likely to identify with the culture after the integration of advantages and disadvantages.This research has developed a scale for assessing international perspective and local cultural identity of college students.The international perspective assessment scale includes three first-level indicators,namely,knowledge,competence and attitude,five second-level indicators,namely,international knowledge,domestic knowledge,language competence,intercultural communication competence and attitude.The number of items corresponding to the five second-level indicators is 7,5,5,6 and 7,respectively,totally 30 questions.The assessment of college students’ local cultural identity includes three dimensions,namely,cultural emotion,cultural behavior and cultural self-confidence.The number of corresponding items are 5.4 and 3,totally 12 questions.All items are scored by Likert scoring method,with the highest score of 5 and the lowest score of 1.The scoring of each indicator is to sum up the scoring of corresponding items.The results of the study should be standardized according to the percentage system.This research finds that:(1)Percentage score of college students’ international perspective:international knowledge is 62.30±17.52,domestic knowledge 67.61±16.62,language ability 49.80±19.10,intercultural communication ability 25.68±9.13,attitude 73.07±16.48,and total score 56.31±11.02.The order of influence on college students’ international perspective from strong to weak is personal background,school education and growth environment.(2)Percentage score of college students’ local cultural identity:cultural emotion is 91.02±13.97,cultural behavior 86.31±15.23,cultural self-confidence 89.85±14.41 and total score 89.16±13.11.The order of influence on college students’ local cultural identity from strong to weak is school education,personal background and growth environment.(3)Distribution of the relationship between college students’ international perspective and local cultural identity:7.96%of isolation parallel,20.26%of development parallel,32.25%of separation synergy,2.74%of output synergy,10.70%of input synergy and 26.09%of integration synergy.From strong to weak,the influence order of the relationship between international perspective and local cultural identity is school education,personal background and growth environment.(4)Among the three factors of school education,personal background and growth environment,school education has the greatest influence and personal background the least.Therefore,this research proposes the improvement countermeasures from the aspect of school education.The countermeasures to broaden the international perspective of college students include:broadening overseas programs,providing opportunities for international exchanges,strengthening the teaching staff and cultivating international awareness,emphasizing English teaching,improving language ability,highlighting the frontier achievements and offering international knowledge courses.The countermeasures to enhance college students’ local cultural identity are:cultivating college students’ socialism core values;cultivating local culture-led multi-cultural outlook;strengthening humanistic quality education,creating a harmonious atmosphere;and giving full play to college students’ enthusiasm and initiative.The countermeasures to promote the coordinated development of college students’ international perspective and local cultural identity are:to guide college students to deeply understand the cultural differences between China and foreign countries;to guide college students to rationally analyze the historical differences between China and foreign countries;to guide college students to scientifically judge the development differences between China and foreign countries;and to guide college students to rationally respond to the challenges of differences between China and foreign countries.
