| Feishangong Yangzaisi is a heroic ancestor recognized by many Dong,Miao,and Tujia Yang families in Wuling Mountain Area,and is also a regional local deity,thus possessing dual identities of ancestor and deity.Feishangong Yangzaisi,as a local cultural symbol,originated from the narrative of Feishanshen in Jingzhou during the Song Dynasty.In the Ming Dynasty,the narrative of Feishanshen showed a personified narrative change,and the saying that Feishanshen had the surname Yang appeared in local chronicles.By the Qing Dynasty,the worship of Yangzaisi in Feishamiao had become a local narrative discourse.With the recognition of the ancestors of the Yang family and the compilation of genealogies in various regions in Wuling Mountain Area the ancestor Yangzaisi and Feishanshen merged into one narrative,ultimately evolving into the later known Feishangong Yangzaisi narrative.The narrative changes from Feishanshen to Feishangong Yangzaisi are a microcosm of the historical integration of local society in Wuling Mountain Area since the Song Dynasty.The Genealogy of Feishangong Yangzaisi’s lineage in Wuling Mountain Area,carries the ancestral memories of the cross regional and cross ethnic Yang family,reflecting and witnessing the ethnic interaction and exchange within the region since the Ming and Qing dynasties.This research innovatively views the genealogy of Feishangong Yangzaisi from different periods,regions,and ethnic groups as a cultural whole,and follows the new path of researching genealogical texts,that is,understanding genealogical literature as texts reflecting the memory of family ancestors.Comprehensive use of ethnology,history,anthropology and other multidisciplinary research methods,combined with literature research and field research,this dissertation conducts a synchronic and diachronic comparative analysis of the genealogy text,systematically excavates the cultural characteristics and historical changes of the historical narrative of the ancestors of the genealogy text,and deeply explains the connotation of ethnic identity behind the genealogy culture.The genealogy text originates from a specific social history situation where there is a mutual relationship between the text and the situation.The Yang family records and reproduces the origin,place of residence,and migration memories related to ancestral identity in the narrative of ancestral history in the genealogy text.The narrative of ancestral history in genealogical texts mainly involves the writing and construction of ancestral origins.Internally,based on shared ancestry,it condenses the practical relationships of family members.Externally,based on ancestral stories,the ethnic boundaries between families and other ethnic groups are distinguished.Therefore,the Yang family in different social history situations will continue to construct and reconstruct the ancestral historical narrative of the genealogy text based on the actual needs.The narrative symbols,patterns,and changes related to the origin,place of residence,and migration of ancestors in the ancestral history narrative of the Genealogy of Feishangong Yangzaisi’s lineage in Wuling Mountain Area jointly constitute the textual representation.Through the comparative analysis of the texts of genealogy in different periods,across regions and across ethnic groups,four representations of multielement integration in genealogy texts are extracted: firstly,fuzziness.As a heroic ancestor of the Yang family,Feishangong Yangzaisi has undergone a transformation from a legendary ancestor to a historical ancestor.Therefore,different genealogical texts exhibit ambiguity in the narrative and memory of ancestral identity,background,and ancestral tombs.Secondly,diversity.There are differences and diversity among different genealogical texts,that is,the genealogical texts of different ethnic groups present diverse ancestral memories.Specifically,in the Dong ethnic genealogy text on the border between Hunan,Guizhou,and Guangxi,there are immigrant memories of their ancestral home in Ji’an,Jiangxi.There are ancestral memories of Yangjiajiang in the Miao ethnic genealogy text in western Hunan.And there are migration memories of from Chu to Qian to Shu in the Tujia ethnic genealogy text on the border between Hunan,Guizhou,and Chongqing.Thirdly,fictionality.The ancestral narratives of different genealogical texts exhibit fictionality,either imagining the Yangjiajiang as a heroic ancestor or weaving the Hongnongyangshi into distant lineages.Fourthly,identity.It is manifested in the commonality of narrative modes in different genealogical texts,including the common narrative motif of the ancestral story of Yingxiongzhengmanshubian,as well as the coexistence of the ancestral narrative mode of Yingxiongzuxian+Xiongdizuxian.Also,it is manifested in the unification of genealogical texts,namely the compilation of geneal-ogies and the sharing of mother genealogies in the Yangzaisishizutongzhi.The understanding of the social context in Wuling Mountain Area should be placed in the historical context of the expansion of national authority and the transformation of chieftain society since the Song Dynasty,and examined around human ecology such as land,livelihood,taxation,etc.The ancestral narrative model of Yingxiongzuxian+Xiongdizuxian is the fundamental history of the Yang family,achieving cross regional and cross ethnic cohesion and unity of the Yang family;The narrative motif of the ancestral story of Yingxiongzhengmanshubian can be rewritten and reconstructed,reflecting ancestral identity in different contexts.In different social history situations,the Yang family created and produced the distinction,connection and identity among ethnic groups through the reestablishment,reconstruction and inheritance of their ancestral memories.Therefore,the fictionality of the genealogy text’s narrative of the family origin has connotations of subjective fiction and objective truth.The multielement integration of the genealogy text and the social history situation reflect the complex structure of the local society in Wuling Mountain Area,as well as the continuity and change of history.Since the 1980 s,under the social background of clan revival and traditional reconstruction,local society has achieved the unified construction of the cultural symbols of Feishangong Yangzaizi.The Yang family,who crossed regions and ethnic groups on the border between Hunan and Guizhou,achieved the construction of The Genealogy of Feishangong Yangzaisi’s lineage text and the Feishangong Yangzaizi ancestral portrait through the Lianzongtongpu,from diversity to unity.This is based on the practical results of ethnic interaction and identity.In the contemporary social context,through the local cultural practice of official civilian isomorphism,the symbol of the heroic image of Feishangong Yangzaizi,and the unified con-struction of heroic discourse have been achieved,making it an important symbol of maintaining ethnic unity.The Yang family,which crosses regions and ethnic groups in Wuling Mountain Area,has recognized Feishangong Yangzaizi as a common heroic ancestor,and has generated and strengthened ethnic and Chinese identity through historical exchanges,exchanges,and blending.The genealogy and culture of Feishangong Yangzaizi in Wuling Mountain Area,reflect the historical fusion process of You come to me and I come to you,you have me and I have you in the history of the Chinese nation.It also provides a vivid local practical case for us to understand Chinese nation multielement integration pattern and A community for the Chinese nation.
