A Comparative Study Of Translation Between Chinese And Vietnamese For Common IT Terms

Terminology is used to describe the concept of a certain industry,explain the characteristics of a certain field,and represent the conceptual system of a discipline field.Terminology is also an important knowledge in language and an independent system.With the rapid development of information technology,the terminology in various industries is constantly produced and updated,so the research on terminology is getting more and more attention.The development history of computer field is relatively short,but it is currently the fastest growing industry in the world.Information Technology(IT for short),developed on the basis of computer technology,has profoundly changed people’s lives and shortened the distance of communication.In order to facilitate the exchange of science and technology,the computer field must constantly update and create new words to meet the needs,thus generating a large number of IT industry terms.Globalization makes the translation industry more and more important.The exchange and cooperation among countries are increasingly frequent,and knowledge dissemination and communication make terminology translation more concerned.China and Vietnam are two neighboring countries,so they have close cooperative relations in all aspects,especially in economic,technological and other aspects.Terminology translation is a field that Chinese Vietnamese translators attach great importance to.At present,Chinese Vietnamese Vietnamese business terms and Chinese Vietnamese Vietnamese public security professional terms have been studied,but Chinese Vietnamese Chinese IT terms are rarely involved.Therefore,this paper conducts a comparative study of Chinese and Vietnamese translation of computer terminology.This paper is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the reason for choosing this topic,the significance of the study,the purpose of the study,the research methods and materials,etc.The main research methods of this paper are case analysis method,translation method(literal translation,free translation,zero translation,etc.will be used in the process of translation to translate Chinese Vietnamese Chinese IT articles)and comparative method to conduct in-depth research on the mutual translation of Chinese Vietnamese IT terms.In addition,the main language sources of IT terms collected in this paper are Chinese,Vietnamese IT dictionaries,IT textbooks,IT news,and IT articles.The main framework of the paper is to determine the methods and results of IT terminology and IT terminology translation,and to analyze,compare and count the basic translation of Chinese and Vietnamese IT terminology.The second chapter defines the concept of "terminology".In this regard,many definitions have been put forward by the linguistic community.For example,a term is a name unit attached with certain concepts in a scientific and technological field,related to other names in the field and constituting a terminology system with them;A term refers to a general(or concrete or abstract)specialized knowledge or field in a language;Terminology is a collection of well-defined technical words in a scientific system;Terms are the agreed symbols that express or limit professional concepts through voice or words;Terms refer to special terms in various disciplines or specific terms used in a certain discipline or topic;A term is a collection of terms used to express concepts in a specific subject area,and it is an agreed language symbol that expresses or restricts scientific concepts through voice or words;Terminology refers to the specialized terms of various disciplines,which are used to correctly mark things,phenomena,characteristics,relationships and processes in various specialized fields such as production technology,science,art,social life.etc.Lexical units of theoretical concepts;Terms can also be said to be special words.On this basis,this paper summarizes a more comprehensive definition of terms.In addition,this paper also puts forward the characteristics of terms:scientific,accurate,single,systematic,concise,international,national,which are related and mutually affected.IT terminology is also a part of the terminology system,and its structure includes synthesis method,transformation method,derivation method,abbreviation method,mixed method,etc.This paper also makes a basic classification of Chinese and Vietnamese IT terms,including computer hardware terms,computer software terms,Internet terms,and communication terms.In addition,it also mentioned the terms of mobile phones,because at present,in addition to computers,mobile phones are also indispensable tools for people,and mobile phones have the same functions and features as computers.Chapter three discusses various translation methods of English IT terms into Chinese and Vietnamese:literal translation,free translation,transliteration,zero translation,etc.As a special field of translation studies,terminology translation must take its particularity into full consideration,grasp its research content from multiple levels,and explore its research objects from multiple dimensions,so as to help master the key points of terminology translation research and overcome its difficulties,while combining the basic characteristics of translation studies.Through analysis,we find that whether English IT terms are translated into Chinese or Vietnamese,we should consider the characteristics of IT terms and choose the corresponding translation method.In the process of translating IT terms,in addition to literal translation,we need to choose free translation,transliteration,and zero translation methods to ensure that IT terms can maintain their basic meaning in different contexts.Chapter 4 selects Chinese IT texts from IT textbooks,IT news,and IT websites,including introduction to computer hardware,software,the Internet,communications,and mobile phone related knowledge,and uses literal translation,free translation,and zero translation to translate them into Vietnamese.Through translation and analysis,it points out that appropriate translation methods should be used in the process of translating Chinese and Vietnamese IT articles,and counts the ratio of Chinese and Vietnamese IT terminology translation methods for relevant texts.Chapter V uses literal translation,free translation and zero translation methods to translate Vietnamese IT texts(including introduction of computer hardware,software,Internet,communication and mobile phone related knowledge)into Chinese.In the process of translation,it analyzes what needs attention:the characteristics of IT terms,combined with the practical context in IT texts in order to better complete the translation.Finally,it also makes statistics on the ratio of literal translation,free translation and zero translation of relevant texts.The sixth chapter is the conclusion.It sunmarizes the characteristics of terms,the structure and classification of IT terms,as well as various translation methods and their ratios of Sino Vietnamese Chinese IT terminology translation.Through analysis and summary,we propose that the translation of Sino Vietnamese Chinese IT terms should pay attention to how to correctly select appropriate words and expressions according to the context.The innovation of this paper is to use the terminology theory and method of linguistics to analyze the basic structure of Chinese and Vietnamese IT terms,and compare the translation of Chinese and Vietnamese IT terms.The research results have a reference role for the Chinese Vietnamese translation of IT terms and the compilation of Chinese Vietnamese IT dictionaries,and also provide some help for Chinese Vietnamese translators and workers engaged in IT in Chinese and Vietnamese enterprises.
