From the moment that Catholicism spread in China in sixteenth century,in order to realize the goal of converting the vast China, the process of the localization of Catholicism had began,in which the training of Chinese local clergies participated in,this thesis studied Chinese Christians going to Europe due to various reasons in 17th and early 18th century, and they became the first generations of indigenous clergies.I’ll choose Emmanuel de Siqueira,Nicolas da Fonseca,Andreas Chin,Michal Alfonso Shen, and Louis Fan as the main object of this thesis, they all accompanied western priests returning to Europe based on various of reasons, and most of them returned to their homeland devoting their rest lives to missionary work.Who are they? What are the reasons and routes of tough trips going to Europe?Who do they meet and what are their lives like in Europe? How’s their missionary work evaluated after they return to east Asia?Could we still seek out their graveyard? In attempting to retrace all these questions,I hope to demonstrate the process of localization of Christianity in China by the earliest admission of nonwhite clergy.
