Within the study of design and art,design culture belongs to the external research field of design.In other words,it analyses and studies the cultural causes and formation mechanisms behind design behaviours,forms and phenomena from a cultural perspective,in order to explore the "cultural origins" of design and the laws of existence and development associated with them,as well as their causes.This approach is in line with the dialectical materialist epistemology of unity of opposites,i.e.to explore the intrinsic relevance and cultural specificity of art and design from the perspective of the totality,specificity and developmental fluidity of things,and to explore the methodology of design innovation and creativity in its interplay.Modern visual communication design,pioneered by Western industrial civilisation,has developed over the past hundred years,from print media design to the new media information design of today,resulting in a qualitative leap and a leap in professional outreach.Modern information technology is leading and changing the direction of human cultural development,changing and promoting people’s production and lifestyle.Based on the widespread application of network and digital technology,human beings are sharing information in the context of interconnection and interoperability,which has led to the integration of global network information,virtual reality of visual information,intelligent human-computer interaction and high-speed interconnection of digital technology.As a professional field of modern new media design,visual communication design has been incorporated into the scope of theoretical and practical research on the cultural awareness issues involved in this profession and how to draw on traditional culture for innovative creativity,so as to solve the current misunderstandings and misinterpretations in terms of awareness and avoid the paradigm design brought about by superficial awareness.Based on the higher innovation expectations and call of the times for visual communication design,innovation in design forms must be adapted to the progress of the times;innovation in cultural concepts must meet people’s spiritual and cultural needs;and the form of cultural connotation expression must meet people’s enjoyment of modern visual culture.The evolution of old cultures over time has been the subject of exploration,research and reflection in the field of design culture.Any invention or creation that promotes the technological progress of human society will ultimately be attributed to the attributes of culture,as human existence is the process of cultural creation.For visual communication design,the use of a variety of modern media to effectively convey artistic information is the function of the profession,digital technology and a variety of new media forms in the information age,framing the modern visual communication design culture from design to communication form structure chain.Modern human society’s cultural information is dependent on modern mental media and is expressed through the cultural interpretation and artistic design of the information source by means of art and design.Therefore,both in terms of the professionalism of visual communication design and the allegorical expression of culture in design,there is the issue of cultural scrutiny and the visual field theory of cultural image interpretation and communication in the whole process.Looking at the impact of digital technology on innovation in the field of art and design in the new era,along with the continuous intervention of new technologies such as big data,cloud computing,supply chain and new media,it inevitably provides a broad platform and prospect for the visual communication design profession to explore a new future,expand formal innovation and seek new cultural development points.New technologies have influenced and changed people’s inherent design thinking patterns and customary forms of expression,yet the corresponding design culture and value systems have not fully matched the impact and transformation brought about by technological development.In particular,the current situation of contemporary Chinese visual communication design is still in the stage of inheriting from above,western learning from the east,and uneven regional development.This is the most urgent task in the construction of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics,and the key to changing the lagging culture of contemporary visual design.The theoretical study of the cultural nature of visual communication design in the information age is divided into three parts.Firstly,it starts with the analysis of the current situation and realistic characteristics,focusing on the forms and semantic applications of visual communication design in the context of modern information technology culture,the trends,cultural focus and innovative creative stimulation points,and further analyses whether the current development of visual communication design culture meets the social and cultural development requirements of the information age.The development of visual communication design culture is in line with the social and cultural requirements of the information age.Secondly,in response to the current phenomenon of unbalanced development caused by a lack of awareness,understanding,straightforward borrowing and originality of design,the construction of a Chinese design culture system in the new era is both an opportunity and a rare challenge.The innovation and development of visual communication design requires not only the renewal of modern design concepts,but also the strong support of new information technology.The difficulty lies in the fact that an excessive reliance on and promotion of technology will definitely lead to a lack of humanistic design concepts and cultural emotions,while on the other hand,too much emphasis on traditional inherited culture will lose a sense of modernity.Finally,visual communication design in the information age requires a closer integration of information technology and art design,and the use of modern information technology to innovate design while pursuing the return of the humanistic value of design and the integration of diverse design and cultural concepts.The focus of this thesis is on traditional Chinese design culture and visual aesthetics,and the corresponding research methodology,which forms an argument for the cultural value of contemporary visual communication design and serves as an important reference system for illustration.The main idea of culture-led design is established,and the necessity of reconstructing the culture of contemporary visual communication design is argued,so as to build a theoretical foundation for further constructing the cultural values and cultural ideals of visual communication design in the information age,and to provide a strong reference for further research.
