| Jin Yong and his martial arts fiction had an essential and special role to play in the history of Chinese popular literature in the 20 th century.This article mainly adopts the research method of reception aesthetics and targets on Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction to analyze the acceptance sequence from the perspective of diachronism(in different times)since 1970 s when his fictions were introduced into Chinese mainland;paper copy reading and trans-media spread(TV series,animations,comics,theatrical performances,etc.)from the perspective of synchronicity,the integration of genres in the Internet age and IP production of the whole industry chain.The introduction part mainly clarifies the relevant concepts and problems.For example,analyzing the venation of Chinese popular literature and the development of old school martial arts fiction in the 20 th century;interpreting the concept of reception aesthetics and its use in Chinese literature.At the same time,it briefly explains the research status of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction and the research methods,significance and deficiencies of this article.Chapter one mainly introduces Jin Yong and his creation of martial arts fiction.It traces the footsteps of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction,and explain the value and significance of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction from two aspects of literature and culture.Chapter two starts with the culture fever in Chinese mainland in the 1980 s and the return of popular literature,explores the spreading routes and circulation modes like “counterfeit,continuation and pirate” of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction.On the other hand,the due spread of adapted TV series from Hong Kong and Taiwan highlights the role of media conversion in the first decade of Jin Yong’s acceptance.Chapter three researches the acceptance of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction in Chinese mainland in the 1990 s.In the last decade of the 20 th century,globalization and the ups and downs of the world structure brought along the historical opportunity for the interaction of commerce,media and culture in China.In the dual push of western pluralism and culture “popularization”,the elite scholars within the academic system voice different opinions on Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction and conduct debates on “refined and popular literature” and “classic literature”,making his fictions being recognized by the mainstream ideology for the first time in its true sense.Subsequently,Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction was added into the Chinese textbooks of primary education,the fanatical purchasing of Selected Works of Jin Yong that was carefully proofread and designed by publishers and the temporary hit of adapted TV series are reasons why Jin Yong and his fictions became the one-of-a-kind “Jin Yong phenomenon”,which became a special pronoun for “literature heroes” in the 1990 s after the acceptance of the public,the elites and the mainstream ideology.Chapter four focuses on the acceptance of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction in the21 st century.The tremendous revolution of the Internet media in the 21 st century had significant influence on the economy,politics,culture and public life in Chinese mainland,therefore fostered the “Internet audience” that grew up with the Internet.In the mind of the younger generation seeking for understanding and resonance,“word games” and “community interaction” in the Internet world became an important approach of literature reception and desire expression.In the context of freedom,disorder and “classic removing”,the classic position of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction as popular culture stopped continuing,and transformed into “classic works” on the top shelf and deconstructive “martial arts element”.The infinite exaggeration of “wu”and extreme generalization of “xia” from the network literature world degraded the features of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction(traditional imagination of wu,xia,qing,yi)into every single “atomized” element,becoming a paragraph to be used and an IP clip to be consumed in the whole media industry chain.This article uses “Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction” as an example,endeavors to analyze the influence of media(paper media to multiple media and the Internet media)as accepting background to audience in different times by studying its acceptance in mainland.It draws a comprehensive and deep analysis and explanation of the mainland reception for Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction,discovers the public’s emotional pursuits and aesthetic conversion,organizes the transformation and modification of traditional fictions in the context of postmodern culture and further explores martial arts fiction and its potential to develop and thrive in the 21 st century. |
