Further Study On Roger Fry's Art Theor

Roger Fry,an artist,critic,curator,art educator and art practitioner known for raising public awareness of modern art in Britain,promotes the development and influences the taste of British modern art.Based on the two exhibitions organized by him,Roger Fry successfully brings art knowledge and his passion for art to the public.With his formalism art critic theory,he puts his focus on the art itself,signifying the establishment of the discipline of modern art history in Europe and America.His art theory not only fosters the transformation and development of British modern art but also leads to a change in people’s minds.The interdisciplinary research methods on art history and a manner of critical thinking,together with the early attempt to facilitate the interconnection between arts around the globe,he pays attention to the whole compositional elements of the art form,which reflects an open and inclusive concept.In this paper,six chapters are organized to unfold the historical background of Roger Fry’s theory and the process of establishing and holding the two exhibitions and thus rethink the origin of his art theory,and the impact art development received from his exhibitions and theory.According to the rediscovery of Roger Fry’s theory revealed in his art attempts,the paper is expected to bring brand new thoughts and enlightenment to today’s art criticism and art history writing and also make it possible to form the art under globalization trend.From one perspective,this paper focuses on the art development under the social background of Roger Fry’s times and analyses the process of the development and publicity of his art theory;from another perspective,this paper also stresses the trend of forming a common development of global art and a shared system between different cultures under the contemporary art context.To render art history writing,multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge is required.In addition,being open-minded,emphasizing the translation of visual impressions into a concrete verbal articulation,upgrading research methodologies and insisting on the attempt to achieve multiculturalism and enhancing the construction and development of the academic system are also essential.Substantially,art history writing is an expression of openness and inclusiveness and also a pursuit of creativity.The history of art in a certain period demonstrates the nature of world history in a coherent manner and intellectual history can be accessed by it,which is supposed to enhance the value of art and humanities(art history).
