Roger Fry is a famous formalist aestheticians and art critics in British,also a central figure in the Bloomsbury circle.His artistic criticism of formalism reached its peak in the twenties and thirties of the 20 th century,not only has it become an important watershed between traditional and modern artistic concepts,but it has also opened the way for the study of artistic Noumenon in the 20 th century.His artistic criticism began to be based on the artistic Noumenon,and got rid of literary,biographical,textual and apathetic criticism.This transformation is fundamental to the history of aesthetics.His formal criticism is practical and open,which takes aesthetic theory an intuitive practical value in daily life.There are three parts in this paper.The first part introduces the background of Roger Fry's formalism theory,it includes the development of formalism in the history of aesthetics,the Aesthetic Turn of Fry's era and the academic atmosphere of his academic circle;The second part elaborates Fry's early theory,it mainly reflects his emphasis on artistic imagination and his emphasizing the creativity of art beyond daily life.Exploring the openness of Frye's thoughts and combining formal analysis with culture,and the horizon is more open;.The three part analyses the enrichment and Enlightenment of Roger Fry's theory to aesthetic theory,including the enrichment of the connotation of form,the concern for art itself and the application of aesthetic theory to specific artistic practice.
