The urban transportation system is looking forward to adapting to the aging society.Inquiries have been raised about whether the current appraisal system and working transport modes suit the need for elderly mobility. With the sociotechnical system theory and ridesharing system making tremendous signs of progress,we are capable of looking into the risk incubating in the elderly mobility and designing a new transport mode to cater to the travel demand of the elderly.Based on the elders’ travel characteristics and demands, this study evaluates the risks and difficulties the elders’ encounter during their travel. The study designs a multi-hop ridesharing system based on the elders’ characteristics, and varified the system’s feasibility with experiments. The study analyses the elders’ travel characteristics and demands and constructs an order logit model to further analyse the factors influencing their choices over ridesharing plans based on the results of questionnaires. In addition, the elders’ sesitivities over travel time and cost and other characteristics are designated as the basis of designing transport equality and ridesharing mechanism. The study demonstrates the deficiencies of the current appraisal methods over service of transport system, followed by the establishment of transport equality principle.Based on the elders’ characteristics, the study analyses evaluates the risks and difficulties the elders’ encounter while using transport services, which are the interactions and mechanism designs that violate the transport equality principle. The analyses confirms that the multi-hop ridesharing system suits the elders’ characteristics and travel demands for it could bring equilibrium between travel time and costs, based on the elders’ demand for ridesharing service. This study constructs a multi-hop ridesharing model based on the elders’ characteristics and demands, which adopts a space analytic geometry approach to construct the feasible region for the search algorithm in the matching process based on a time-expanded network.Meanwhile, the study proposes a queue-jumping plan for passengers according to the function composed of the similarity of passengers’ and vehicles’ original routes, global optimization goals, and the control of passengers’ and vehicles’ route increases, which satisfies the transport equality priciple for the elderly travel and achieves a high scalability, stable and efficient design. In the last part of the research, the study conducts three experiments on the ridesharing system to test its robustness and efficiency. The experiments show that the system performs well in providing mobility and preventing the delay from spiking. The work verifies that the elders’ sensibility of travel time and costs is different from other groups based on their travel characteristics and demands. The study contributes a transport equality principle with its appraisal method, which confirms that the multi-hop ridesharing system suits the elders’ characteristics and demands based on the analysis of equality and the elders’ characteristics. The multi-hop ridesharing system is proposed based on the elders’ characteristics and verified with genuine data. The study provides several insights and new methods for the appraisal of the transport system and system optimization, which will be providing theoretical and decision-making support to transport system design and management in the future. |
