In recent years, the servitization of manufacture and carbon emission reduction have been one of the issues that have attracted attention of researchers, and many valuable research results have been formed. With the formation of global value chain, the optimal allocation of resources from is gradually generated through international trade. However, how to clarify the carbon emission reduction responsibility of each country has become an urgent problem, which makes the carbon implicit in export trade increasingly prominent. At present,China has become the largest carbon emitting country.Carbon emission reduction has a profound impact on China and even the world. To this end,China has put forward the dual carbon goals of "peaking carbon" by 2030 and "carbon neutrality" by 2060.Manufacturing industry is an important source of carbon emissions. In the policy of “Made in China 2025”,our country also puts forward a high-intensity development goal for manufacturing carbon reduction. In such background, most of the previous literature focused on carbon capture, new energy development for carbon reduction, which is not suitable for the research of carbon neutrality. This paper focuses on the impact of manufacturing servitization on embodied carbon.Servitization of manufacturing industry means that manufacturing enterprises transform the value chain from manufacturing centered to service centered, effectively improve the energy utilization rate and reduce the embodied carbon emission in trade value-added through manufacturing servitization. This makes manufacturing servitization become one of the most important ways to reduce carbon emissions. The existing literature on manufacturing service mainly focuses on the economic level, ignoring the quantitative analysis of manufacturing servitization from the environmental perspective;Although some literatures have studied carbon emission reduction from the perspective of manufacturing servitization, they mainly analyze it from a single level, such as input servitization or output servitization.Few literatures comprehensively investigate the relationship between manufacturing service and carbon emission reduction from both input servitization and output servitization; Finally, when measuring the level of embodied carbon emissions from international trade, most documents only measured the total carbon emissions at the national or sectoral level, which ignoring the relationship between energy use and overall carbon emissions performance, resulting in inaccurate measurement. In view of the above problems, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the implied carbon emissions in the sub-sectors of manufacturing export trade from the perspective of manufacturing servitization. To study how to more scientifically evaluate the correlation between the industrial upgrading of export value-added inputs and the environmental consumption of manufacturing export trade in the global value chain.Through this study,it is confirmed that manufacturing servitization is an important and effective means to reduce the embodied carbon in export trade, but the importance of this issue has been still underestimated,so this paper has certain policy significance and practical significance. This paper discusses the environmental impact of manufacturing servitization from the perspective of manufacturing servitization and the decomposition of embodied carbon emission structure, and studies the relationship between them.Firstly, the theoretical basis of manufacturing embodied carbon emissions and manufacturing service, the endogenous mechanism and impact path of manufacturing service environmental effects are analyzed theoretically;Secondly, using the world input-output database, using the global multi-regional input-output model and the value-added decomposition method of manufacturing export trade, this paper comprehensively analyzes and calculates the level of manufacturing embodied carbon emissions and manufacturing servitization rate in China and important economies in the world from the two aspects of input service and output service; At the same time, the structure decomposition method is used to decompose the overall performance of carbon emissions, and then the driving factors of embodied carbon emissions are deeply analyzed; Finally,on this basis, the panel data model is used to empirically explore the impact relationship between the service level of China’s manufacturing industry and export embodied carbon emissions. The research conclusions of this paper are as follows: first, among the four driving factors of China’s carbon emissions change, the emission intensity effect plays a key role in reducing carbon emissions, and the total export effect has the greatest impact on the increase of carbon emissions.Second, the servitization rate of China’s manufacturing industry is generally on the rise, and producer services and distributive services have become the main driving forces for the servitization of manufacturing industry; The proportion of domestic source servitization rate of manufacturing industry is higher than that of foreign source servitization rate, and the proportion of domestic source service rate is increasing.Third, the improvement of manufacturing servitization rate can significantly reduce the level of embodied carbon emissions from manufacturing exports, and the role of manufacturing input servitization rate is greater than that of manufacturing output servitization rate. Finally, the manufacturing servitization rate of developed economies is higher than that of emerging economies such as China,Russia and Brazil, but the manufacturing servitization rate of developed economies has not increased significantly.Compared with developed economies,China’s manufacturing industry has a relatively high proportion of domestic sources of service, and the value-added investment in domestic services has increased, reflecting the important value of China in the value chain in the field of international trade. The mechanism test results show that the servitization rate of manufacturing industry can affect the embodied carbon emission level of manufacturing exports through technical effect, structural effect and environmental regulation effect, among which the structural effect and environmental regulation effect bring the most significant emission reduction effect. The results of robustness test and heterogeneity analysis show that the improvement of domestic source servitization rate of manufacturing industry is the main driving force to reduce the embodied carbon emissions of manufacturing exports;Compared with distributive service factor input, the increase of productive service factor input can more effectively reduce the embodied carbon emission level of manufacturing exports.
