Transportation infrastructure is one of the vital factors and components for the construction and development of a tourist destination,and it also acts as one of the prerequisites for a country or region to develop tourism.Both practices and academia have confirmed that the conditions of transportation infrastructure have great influence on the development of the travel and tourism industry,and the reasons of which are self-evident.To bring the tourist to the destination of their travel,transport is needed.Therefore,to develop the tourism industry,support from the transportation industry is essential,which means that transportation infrastructure plays an important role in the development of tourism.Transportation is widely regarded as a bond between two places,it is accessibility,convenience,and the optimization of the spatial structure are also key factors which affects the resource development,construction and mobility of the tourist destination.In recent years,Chinese investment in the construction of transportation infrastructure has soared,and transportation planning has also become more and more systematic and complete.However,owing to the comprehensive influence of factors such as terrain conditions,geographical location,economic level,and local transportation planning,the level of the construction of transportation infrastructure between regions have huge differences,which in turn greatly affects the development of the regional tourism industry.Besides,as the main force of the development of the regional tourism industry,the tourism industry agglomeration is inevitable and irresistible.The advantages of tourism industry agglomeration motivate more and more countries and regions to encourage and cultivate it as an important strategy to accelerate the development of the tertiary industry and promote regional social and economic transformation.Therefore,figuring out the driving mechanism and action mechanism between the development of transportation infrastructure and the agglomeration of the tourism industry is beneficial to the development of the tourism.It will help the regional transportation infrastructure to make full use of its ability in supporting the agglomeration and high-quality development of the tourism industry.It will also fuel the transformation and upgrading of regional tourism industries and improve the overall economic level.Yunnan,a province in the Southwestern frontier of China,is one of China’s major tourist destination noted for its multi-ethnic,multi-religious,multi-cultural tourism.At the same time,at the new national strategic level,it is shouldering a special status as important channel between China and South and Southeast Asian.All these factors make study the construction of transportation infrastructure and tourism industry in Yunnan province have a very strong representative and unique.Therefore,this thesis takes Yunnan Province as the research area.Against the background that the transportation infrastructure and transportation pattern are constantly undergo great change and evolution,the thesis writer believe that these has great impact on the regional tourism industry and its agglomeration effect.Based on the analysis and consideration,this paper proposes its research proposition which is the research on the impact mechanism of transportation infrastructure on tourism industry agglomeration and effect analysis.With the theory of industrial economics applied,and adopt a research method which combines norms with empirical,combines static with dynamic,and combines comparison with systems.It is going to revolve on analyzing the driving mechanism and action mechanism behind transportation infrastructure and effect of the influence of transportation infrastructure on tourism industry agglomeration.In this thesis,theoretical and empirical analysis was carried out with an attempt to try to answer the following main questions through exploratory research : What is the internal mechanism of the influence of transportation infrastructure on tourism industry agglomeration? Does the transportation infrastructure promote the emergence of tourism industry agglomeration,and to what extent? For various regions in different economic development environments,what are the reasons for the differences in the extent of the impact of transportation infrastructure development on the agglomeration of tourism industries,what factors have caused these differences,and is there any difference between these factor as to the intensity and direction of their influence? Does the influence of transportation infrastructure on tourism industry agglomeration have threshold characteristics,spatial spillover effects,and coupling effects?The main findings of this paper include the following aspects:In terms of the theoretical research,the paper has constructed a mechanism for analyzing the impact of transportation infrastructure on the agglomeration of tourism industry,an effect analysis framework and some action mechanisms based on related discussions of transportation infrastructure’s impact on industrial agglomeration in the theory of new economic geography and traditional industrial location theory :(1)Transportation infrastructure achieves its development through elevating the transportation accessibility and the network performance,and impacts on the flow of capital factor and labor factor further,which has become an internal transmission mechanism that affects the agglomeration of the tourism industry;meanwhile external influence factors like regional resource endowments,economic environment,social environment,and political environment constitute the external influence mechanism of transportation infrastructure on tourism industry agglomeration;(2)The development of transportation infrastructure accelerates the generation of tourism industry agglomeration,at the same time,and the development of tourism industry agglomeration reflects the construction of transportation infrastructure.Thus,there exists an interaction mechanism between transportation infrastructure and tourism industry agglomeration;(3)The mechanism and path of the influence of transportation infrastructure on the tourism industry,that is,the development of transportation infrastructure accelerates the industrial agglomeration of tourism nodes to form a regional tourism growth pole,and further influences the development of the tourism industry in the surrounding areas through agglomeration and diffusion,forming a point,line and planar spatial layout promotes the integrated development of regional tourism;(4)The thesis put forwards three of the transportation infrastructure’s impact on the tourism industry agglomeration,which are the threshold effect,spatial spillover effect,and coupling induction.In terms of empirical research,this research was based on the selections of panel data in each city of Yunnan Province ranging from 2003 to 2017.This research will also adopt the entropy method to calculate the comprehensive level index of Yunnan province transportation infrastructure and the index of the tourism industry agglomeration so as to construct a corresponding econometric model to effectively evaluate the internal and external driving mechanisms and effects of transportation infrastructure on tourism industry agglomeration.The specific empirical analysis and conclusions can be summarized as follows:(1)The degree and mechanism of transportation infrastructure impact on the agglomeration of the tourism industry.By constructing an ordinary panel model and analyzing the mediating effect model,the transportation infrastructure of Yunnan Province has greatly motivated the improvement of the agglomeration level of its tourism industry.To be more specific,for each 1% increase in the level of transportation infrastructure,the agglomeration level of the tourism industry will increase by 0.2808%.In the driving mechanism of agglomeration,the internal driving force of the labor force(influence factor 0.0029)and the capital factor(influence factor 0.3902)is evident,which demonstrates a characteristic of capital drive;as to the external influence mechanism,the industrial structure(influence factor0.172),the population density(influence factor 2.753)and other factors are of great significance in promoting the agglomeration of the tourism industry.What’s more,the opening up factors have a deterrent effect(influence factor-0.7083)and it has proved that consumption level factors have no significant effect on promoting or deterring the agglomeration of the tourism industry.(2)Threshold characteristics of transportation infrastructure impact on the agglomeration of the tourism industry.By constructing a non-linear threshold model analysis,this research finds that the promotion effect of Yunnan transportation infrastructure on the agglomeration of the tourism industry is presented as inverted U.What is more,it has also found that as to transportation infrastructure impact on the agglomeration of the tourism industry,factors of the external influence mechanism such as the level of economic development,the fiscal decentralization and the level of marketization also have significant threshold effects.When the external influence factors have reached a certain level,the promotion effect of transportation infrastructure on tourism industry agglomeration will be significantly enhanced.(3)The spatial spillover effect of transportation infrastructure impact on the agglomeration of the tourism industry.According to constructing a spatial econometric model analysis,this research finds that the transportation infrastructure can not only significantly elevates the local tourism industry agglomeration level,but also can enhance the surrounding areas tourism industry agglomeration level through the spatial spillover effect.At the same time,among all of the spatial spillover effects of the external influence factors on the agglomeration of tourism industry,the spillover effect of the opening to the outside world is negative;the local effect of the industrial structure is negative;the indirect effect on the surrounding areas is positive;the total effect is positive;the spillover effect of the population density is not significant;and the consumption level has a positive spillover effect on the local area and a negative spillover effect on the surrounding areas.(4)Coupling characteristics of transportation infrastructure impact on the agglomeration of the tourism industry.By constructing a spatial coupling model analysis of transportation infrastructure and tourism industry agglomeration,the paper indicates that the level of coupling and coordination of transportation infrastructure and tourism industry agglomeration in Yunnan Province is relatively low,and the mutual promotion mechanism has not been fully exerted.Besides,the model presents a relatively distributed spatial distribution characteristic,and the coordinated development of the two systems needs to be improved.The innovation of this thesis involve the following several aspects:(1)The perspective of this research is innovative.This article introduces the research of transportation infrastructure’s impact on industrial agglomeration into the tourism industry agglomeration,and analyzes its action mechanism,driving mechanism and effect;(2)Using the theory of new economic geography,tentatively put forward the main internal and external factors influencing the agglomeration of tourism industry in transportation infrastructure,and initially constructed the dynamic mechanism and influencing effect of transportation infrastructure influencing the agglomeration of tourism industry Analyze models to quantitatively analyze the role,direction,and intensity of different internal and external factors in the transportation infrastructure’s impact on tourism industry agglomeration;(3)It adopts spatial measurement models to analyze transportation infrastructure impact on tourism industry agglomeration.The spillover effect of transportation infrastructure on the agglomeration of the tourism industry is included in studying of the relationship between the two,which is from a spatial perspective.
