Media,especially IT media,is the channel and bridge of knowledge transfer,so as to an important driving force for open innovation to be adopted in practice.Therefore,this study reviews the relevant literature of open innovation,knowledge transfer and knowledge transfer media,and systematically analyzes the influence mechanism of media on knowledge transfer,which is the basis of studying the relationship between media and enterprise open innovation,and exploring boundary conditions and intermediate mechanism has theoretical and practical value.The following questions were mainly analyzed and studied :(1)what is the influence mechanism of media on the objectives of different dimensions of knowledge transfer and the theoretical framework and decision model of media selection in knowledge transfer?(2)Does the multiplicity of external linking media and external linking IT media affect open innovation due to the richness and variety of knowledge transferred in collaboative innovation? What are the boundary conditions?(3)Will external linking media multiplicity and external linking IT media multiplicity affect firm innovation performance? What is the intermediate mechanism?Focusing on the above research questions,this paper synthesizes the theories and viewpoints of media richness theory,channel expansion theory,social influence theory,absorptive capacity theory and resource basis view,and the mechanism of media influencing open innovation is explored,using several methords such as literature research,case study,theoretical deduction,statistical analysis and so on.The main conclusions are as follows:First,this study combs the relevant theories of media selection affecting knowledge transfer,systematically analyzes the influence mechanism of media on the objectives of each dimension of knowledge transfer,and deepens the understanding of the relationship between media and knowledge transfer.This study argues that knowledge transfer is a multi-objective project.Based on the existing theories and literature,the influencing mechanism of media attributes on knowledge transfer objectives is deduced.Furthermore,this study constructs a decision model of media selection in knowledge transfer and verifies its effectiveness through a case study.Second,this study examines collaboative innovation from the perspective of media and explores moderating variables,which enriches the antecedents and boundary conditions of collaboative innovation.Although communication and knowledge transfer are considered to be very critical in collaboative innovation,few studies analyze collaborative innovation from the perspective of media deeply.This study constructs the variable of external linking media multiplicity,and finds that it can promote supplier collaboative innovation,and geographical distance and relationship formality strengthen the relationship.Since IT media is becoming more and more important,this study constructs the variable of external linking IT media multiplicity,and finds that it can promote supplier cooperation innovation,customer cooperation innovation and other partner cooperation innovation.Third,this study advances the related research of the antecedent variables of open innovation,and opens the black box of external linking IT media multiplicity affecting firm innovation performance based on absorptive capacity theory.This study takes the IT media as the starting point to verify the positive effect of external linking IT media multiplicity on firm innovation performance,enriching the related research of open innovation.The inflow of external knowledge only provides the possibility and foundation for firms to improve innovation performance,and the transformation to firm innovation performance still needs systematic work.This study finds that ICT internal utilization can help firms identify valuable knowledge and assimilate it.Then firms can choose internal R&D or external cooperative R&D according to their own resources and capabilities to transform and use external knowledge.Finally,the goal of improving firm innovation performance is realized.Specifically,this study finds that ICT internal utilization,internal R&D and external cooperative R&D play a partial mediating role in external linking IT media multiplicity and firm product innovation performance,and internal R&D plays a partial mediating role in external linking IT media multiplicity and firm process innovation performance,while ICT internal utilization and external cooperative R&D not;ICT internal utilization and internal R&D / external collaborative R&D play a sequential meidiating role between external linking IT media multiplicity and product innovation performance,but not between external linking IT media multiplicity and process innovation performance.
