This thesis is about a subject for 'TV interview style', which is one of the studies of spoken language rhetorical, consisted of 7 chapters. Chapter.1, by way of the introduction suggests the object of study and also describes retrospect of the existing study results and the research methods of this study. This research regards the essential character of'TV interview'as performance discourse imitated by general discourse. The contents of discourse mainly present the problems which can lead interest from the audience with the fixed and systematic program by an interviewer. Also, interviewees make their ideal images positively in the fixed time on the program, and get consents from the audience. The object can produce the ideal image of them positively (with interviewer), so this study considers it as the second implication of performance. This performance has effect on the formation of TV interview style, and makes its distinctive feature.Chapter.2 describes the generality of TV interview and the TV interviewer's verbal style. The fundamental difference between TV interview and the general discourse is that TV interview has a participation by the masses which is open discourse (not a personal discourse between the interviewer and the object), and its purpose is a high viewer ratings. Therefore, the audience is to be the practical'control'who will not participate directly and concurrently be the reason of performance for TV interviewer's verbal style.Chpter.3 considers the discourse role and the features of the TV interviewer's verbal style in the view of the features of daily words. In the interview, the interviewer plays a role of the discourse as a hearer and a controller of the discourse, a commentator for a background, a questioner, and a provider of topics and closing and the interviewees produce the discourse and is in charge of the discourse as a guest, and a narrator of the topic. Also, both of them use the proper words for their each role. Chapter.4 considers and analyzes the structure of the question-answer in the interview program. It is very clear that the Chinese interview program has a fixed structure on its start and end, and this is to be the extension for the form of the verbal style of interview program. It also decides the basic form of verbal style of the interview. In this frame, the interview has endless development for the form of the topic, and this development consists of three ways, the interactive formation, the host leading formation, and the object leading formaion. Among them, the interactive formation which can keep the etiquette and modesty of both the host and the interviewee accounts for great proportion. In the view of verbal style of TV interview, the most style is the interactive formation which gives an answer to each question, and this is also one of the features of performance of TV interview. Considering the structure of the question-answer of verbal style interview, in the view of turn of words, turn of the host and the object is fair without preponderance. This is absolutely different from the general discourse. Also, the host takes the leadership for the turn of words and for the turn of words in closing as well. This leadership is generally perceived by the objects and they follow it. This is not an usual condition in general discourse, either. About the question-answer of the interview, in this study, the one that is the host mainly asked questions such as 'wh-question' and 'yes/no-question' with quantitative analysis. And also, there are no rhetorical questions. Verbal style of TV interview presents performance distinguished from general discourse. The majority of the answers from the object are 'pre-answer and post-question', and there are just a few negative answers from the object observing the principle of politeness and building his or her positive image.Chapter.5 considers interaction and principle of politeness in the interview. The host and the object play their roles conveying information to the audience in the interview. During that time, performance of interview's verbal type comes out through mutual collaboration process. Mutual collaboration is divided into two parts,'feedback'and'the host's collaboration'. Feedback is a significant form of mutual collaboration process, it shows that the audience is listening carefully. The host listens carefully, wonders and asks back as feedback. The feedback of the object is used for confirming information and affirmation of his or her answers. Contrary to bidirectional collaboration in general discourse, it indicates single-directional feature which is the host oriented in TV interview. In addition, chapter 5 considers politeness principle in two ways, the one is the positive way and the other is the negative way. The speaker-oriented expression, which is a part of politeness principle, appears in psychological verbs and hesitation fillers, the hearer-oriented expression shows the meaning of affection and politeness‘??',‘??'in the plural expression. Also, the proposition-oriented expressions indicate indirectness of the proposition and weakening of the proposition. According to the analysis of discourse participants in negative politeness principal, it can be found a feature of performance like the clear role and the regulation.Chapter.6 considers the difference between verbal style of Chinese TV interview program and Korean's, and it deals with the formative mechanism of verbal style of TV interview program, too. The formative mechanism of verbal style of TV interview is strongly related with the form of 'self-image'.'Self- description' and 'self-argument' are used often to build interviewees' image, and they create themselves by using paralanguage and non-language.Chapter.7 concludes with the features of TV interview verbal type.
