Oirat Mongolian Long Song Study

This dissertation selects the Oirat Mongolian long song’s comparative study in Mongolian Oirat ethnicity,Chinese Oirat Mongolian ethnicity and Russian Kalmyk Oirat ethnicity as the research object.Dissertation based on abundant field research,and as well as the ethnomusicologist,historians,anthropologists research materials.The music in this dissertation included long song of the Oirat Mongolian ethnicity’s character,ritual ceremony and comprehensive study and then have analysis and explanation of the difference and similarity between Chinese Oirat Mongolia,Mongolian Oirat Mongolia and Russian Kalmyk Oirat Mongolia.In the present research field of Oirat Mongolian long song research in world,the majority research work is from the perspective of ethnology,folklore and anthropology to proceed with study,and rarely from the perspective of musicology.Furthermore,ethnomusicologist also did not study much about comparative study in Oirat Mongolian long song.This dissertation attempts to proceed with a comparative and comprehensive study to exert the method of vocal music in ethnomusicology,as well as to fill the academic gaps in the comparative study of Oirat Mongolian long song.The author combines two analysis of the Oirat Mongolian long song,such as analyzing long song’s lyric and melody.Furthermore,attempting to include long songs singing ritual,religion and environmental study.Even though Oirat Mongolians separate and spread in three different countries,their tradition,custom and long song has similarity.Their singing method,lyrics are same.But Oirat Mongolian ethnicity also influenced by their neighboring ethnicities.The author exerts to include in this dissertation their similarity and differences.Oirat Mongolian ethnicity includes small ethnic groups,such as Torghut,Durvud,Bayat,Elet,Zahchin,Myangat,Khoshuut.The author selected Torghut ethnic groups who lived in Chinese Xinjiang,Mongolian Khovd aimag and Russian Kalmyk republic,and comparative analyzing their history,tradition,customs and long song.Then chose their popular long song “The beautiful dun ambler horse”.It sings by in bride’s friends and relatives in the “crying the bride” ritual ceremony.This ritual ceremony is still common in Chinese Xinjiang Torghut ethnic group,Mongolian Torghut and Russian Kalmyk Torghut ethnic groups.Even though Torghut ethnic group divided and separated from each other more than 400 years,but their language is still the same.“The beautiful dun ambler horse” long song recorded in Russian Kalmyk Republic and Mongolian Khovd aimag and Chinese Xinjiang by author who did a field research.
