A Study On Communication Concept Of Taoism In Pre-Qin

This article systematically summarizes four pre-Qin Taoist litera tures:Tao Te Ching,Zhuangzi,Four Classics by Huangdi and Four Essa ys by Guanzi.It also elaborates on how the communication concepts of pre-Qin Taoism emerge,evolve,differentiate,and make impacts by st udying two Legalists who were influenced by Taoism,Shenbuhai and Han fei,and a representative of metaphysics in Weijin Dynasty,Wang Bi.This is not only the first academic article that studies the communic ation concepts of pre-Qin Taoism with methodology,but also the first that systematically examines the communication concepts of Huang-Lao Taoism.This article primarily discusses the communication concepts of pr e-Qin Taoism from the following three aspects:first,the methodologi cal basis of Taoist communication---non-being secondly,the examin ation of how philosophical methodology applies in three parts:inform ation reception,processing,and expression;finally,the discussion on the Taoist political communication concepts.In this study,the main findings are:1.In general,the communication concepts of pre-Qin Taoism can b e distinctly divided into two different schools:Lao-Zhuang Taoism an d Huang-Lao Taoism.The communication concept of Lao-Zhuang Taoism fo cuses on interpersonal communication,while that of Huang-Lao Taoism focuses on the political aspect of mass communication.2.The methodology of non-being runs through the communication co ncept of Taoism,especially the ideas of Laotze and Zhuangzi.Laotze was the first person who proposed the concept of non-being,raised it to the level of methodological Taoism,and finally used it as the fu ndamental methodology to manipulate communication problems.Zhuangzi,on the other hand,expanded the methodology of non-being to extremit y.Zhuangzi’s denial of communication activities is mainly accomplish ed by criticizing two concepts:names and argue.The former denies co nnunieation concept,while the latter denies communieation activitie s.3.In information reception,processing and expression,the non-b eing method runs through the whole process.In aspects of reception a nd expression,there are specific methods to explain.4.For political communication,Laotze emphasized the idea of tea ching without speaking and focused on action rather than the use of l anguage.However,Huang-Lao Taoists,Shen-Han,Wang-Bi and other peop le’s communication ideas are all focused on the relationship between the monarch and the subordinates.Form and name is the communication content they emphasize,while order is the feature of important commu nication activities.From the evolution of Taoist communication concept in the pre-Qin dynasty,the communication concept of Taoism basically follows the d evelopment pattern from nothing to existence,from negative to positi ve,from individual to public,and finally becomes the communication concept focusing on practical issues.This characteristic of communie ation concept is an important idea resource to solve problems caused by information overload in today’s world.
