Qi-xiang model of yin-yang and five-phases is a kind of generative holism relating to ontology-Cosmology and methodology.Qi-xiang model is the knowledge of ontology.But how this knowledge become possible?This is the main problem to be explored and solved in this thesis.For a long time,academic circles take representationalism,not practice as doctrines to judge if Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)science,or true knowledge,intentionally or not.All these researches might be enlightening for discovering TCM in representive knowledge and concrete methods.But they are partially right,as their shortcomings are that they dismembered and sheltered TCM's cultural situationality and particularity.TCM and western medicine,includes so called scientific medicine have developped from different civilizations or cultural situation,and formed different medicine paradigms and research traditions,and their clinic and theory stay in their cultural situation that is the basic to understand their meaning of their words of their medicine knowledge.Modern Science and Technology Studies and philosophy of scientific practice have also revealed that all human knowdge are local knowledge situationally,and there are no knowledges that transcend their own cultural situation.So-called universal knowledges mean locatity of knowledge migration of cultural manifolds,extend,or generate,while their locality has been conserved in knowledges.The rising philosophy of scientific practice has been adapted as theoretical basis in TCM research fields.Some of them reveals that TCM penetrating into situations and theory is prior to theory,and reveals that TCM's practice is of epistemology,or cognition,yet significance of TAO-TE(Moral metaphysics or reason of Practice),the most Chinese-cultural character of TCM's practice,is still ignored.And even the particularity of TCM in epistemology is disregarded.This thesis intentionally understand TCM from the perspective of cultural situation from TCM's classical works and clinical cases,and from the perspective of TCM's inner logic and local practice,tries to illustrate TCM's practice is the organic integration of cognitional practice and moral practice.In this dissertion,TCM is the system developped from life practice,and takes the model as its theoretical basis,and practice prior to theories.This system in fact includes two parts,one is medicine Dao and the other Shu.Medicine Tao investgates metaphysics and Shu holistic methodogy that is model and concrete methods of law of generative entirety.The main point of view is as follows:1.TCM's practice is a kind of life practice.Qi-xiang model can be concretely presented through human life practice and embodiedly perceive and resonate it.And life practice is a integration of moral practice and cognitive practice,or a integration of living practice and clinical practice,or daily life practice and clinical practice.2.On the basis of life practice,the sages of TCM have resonated with the world,and got to know the Tao of ontology,and realized the heaven,earth and human are the One and generate holistily,and then created the Qi-xiang model of yin-yang and five-fhases that simulate the movement of the world.In fact,this model turns into an organic part of life practice and guides these practices to transcend the limit of simple and immediate experience,and transcend perceptual intuition,intellectual category,and rational logic,and in the end reach intellectual intuition on the existence of ontology and university.Thus this knowledge of ontology and university obtains objectivity and universal effectivity of morality.As a simple and dynamic model,Qi-xiang model is of operation and adaption to situation.,and its fundamental purpose is to acknowledge Tao of ontology through life practice,but not to construct representive system of knowledge.Thus this modle does not so far guide to theorietical construction,but guides to life practice as its basic aim.3.Relative to the imagery and tangible Implements and imageriless and distangible Tao,Qi-xiang model is middle-physics,for its Material basis is Qi,imagery but distangible.And it functions like that,uptowards it leads life practice to medicine Tao,and dowmwards it leads life practice to medicine Shu.It is just this middle-physics model that makes it possible to integrate Tao and Shu.4.TCM,taking Qi-xiang model as principle,produces methods of holistic generation(medicine Shu),such as the methods of cause,chance,diagnosis,therapy of disease.These methods highlight on reduction to entirety,but not to entity,to generation of time,but not to space construction,to situation and process,but not to de-situation.TCM's thinking method is analogy of Xiang and figures,which contains Xiang-shu logic of the kind,and Xiang language,instead of formal logic and conceptual language of the western medicine.Nevertheless,the theory of four-element and four-fluid in history,and the modern biology-society-psychology model are both lolism,but they can only devote constructive methods in terms of cognition,while Qix-xiang model devotes generative holism in terms of life practice which can integrate with the methods of modern system science.Aditionally,TCM' methods can overstep from low to high stages until it reach Tao of meta-physics.And TCM is a system of "Inseparability of Substance and Function","Shu laden with Tao",and of inner transcendence,which are different to western medicine that proceeds with outer ethical doctrine.In a word,Qi-xiang model,representing the theory of CTM was created by resonation in life practice that means TCM is practice-dominated,different from the theory-dominated tradition of the western medicine.Qi-xiang model is not artificial and conceptual knowledge in order to explain phenomina,demonstrate theories,but the knowledge of ontology,of nature,and of thing-itself.It aims to demonstrate the truth,guide practice,and hereby the model itself is the inseparate part of the CTM practice system.The knowledge of TCM hold thecharacterof intrinsic value and union of knowledge and doings that determine the doctors have a long experience of life practice,and their techniques depend on their moral realms.This is different from the western traditions that the knowledge are value-free,separated from doings.That is to say,TCM and western traditional medicine have been from different cultural situations,different style of practice and different theory systems.These two systems are maybe incommensurable,but comparable,complementable,integratable and innovatable.
