These studies have been focused on the investigation on the therapeutic effects of the combined therapy with radiation and Qi-boosting foxin-resolving granule(QBTRG) on nasopharynfeal carcinoma (NPC) and the mechanisms underlying the therapeatic effects of this wmbined therapy. The investigation was carried as folowing.1. Theoretic study. This was done through reviewing the classic traditional Chinese medicine works to sumup the theory on etiology and pathosenesis of NPC and surveying the modern literatures to see the essential advances at molecular level on this fumor. In this way, theoretic basis could be set up for the followed clinical and experimental study in this paper.2. Clinical study Seventy cases with unmeated NPC were included in this study. They were randomly divided into two groups, with 35 in each. Then, the cuses in controlling group were treated by radiotherapy wording to the schewe of late course accelerated hyper fractionated (LCAF) and those in treating group were treated by LCAF plus orally taken QBTRG、Before and after the thorapy. Assessed among all the cases wone the sub-population numbers of Tlymphocyfe and the serum levels of IL-α,TNF-α, EBV associated antibobies and VEGF. By the end of Herayp, the cases in both groups were followed up for more than 6 months. 3. Experimensal study. Here staded was the therapentic effects of the combined therapy on implanting tumors of NPC cell line HNE1 amony nude mice (BALB/cnu/nu) and the related mechanisms underlying these effects. Firstly, HNE1 implanting tumors were prepared amony mice by subcutaneous injection:Then, these mice were randomly divided into 4 groups when implaning tumors growing, i.e. modeling group, radiating group, QBTRG group and radiating plus QBTRG group. During the therapeutic course, obserred the suviving race, tumor weight, immunologic indexes, spleen index, WBC counting, and nuclearated cell number and DNA wnfenf in marrow. From the results of these studies, the followings were suggested holding significant implicat ons in clinical practice for this kind of combined therapy.1. QBTRG could bring about more sighificant inhibitory proliferation of NPC cells to inhibit the growth of fumor, when combined with radiotherapy. Moreover, this therapy sighificantly redceced the risk of tumor reoccurring during theporiod of following up.2. QBTRG held significant fherapeufic effects on the reduced immune function amog cases with NPC induced by radiation, espeeidy to improve cellular immunity among them.3. QBTRG showed significant protective effets on marrow, skin, mucosa and neurout spstem to reduce the radiative reaction in these systems and to improve life guality for cases receiving radiotherapy. 4. QBTRG could significantly decline the serum level reoccurring and distal metasfasis. Them, the 5-year surviving rate should be increased largdy in this way.In summary, such a lombined thoray, as combined with radiotheryapy and QBTRG orally taking is worthy to be promoted into clinical practice for wider ranse of using.
