The Idea Of Micro Design And The Research Of Its Application Method

With the development of Post-industrial era, functionalism advocated by Bauhausproduced a whole new meaning. The extension of function is gradually expanding. Amore subtle and complex thinking direction existed along with the improvement ofhuman's cognition. Meanwhile, the influence of American consumerism has not beenin the past, followed by another unavoidable problem is that rapid businessdevelopment leads the deterioration of the human survival environment. This paperput forward the concept of "micro-design", which is trying to find a new direction ofproduct design in the future in such a serious social problem and the context ofcontemporary design.The essential reason of proposing micro-design concept lies in initiatin therelationship of harmonious development among people, things and environment.People exert an irreversible influence on environment while exploiting and usingthings, which is combined effect accumulated by the development of industrialcivilization since more than100years ago. It will be taken as equally important issueas development. Reducing the burden from product development to environment fromthe point of design is the goal of micro-design concept.Unlike traditional design, the micro-design emphasizes on deep understandings andaccurate solutions for tiny problems. Previous positioning of design is mostly basedon macro solution of formal language for the designs and use functions, namely tryingto confront integration problems of form and function in a whole. Reflection fordesign on the effectiveness of the evaluation is not yet mature. Here the effectivenessdoesn't refer to the quality evaluation method, but is based on single design strategychoice and the degree it has been widely accepted. Even the evaluation standard forproduct quality has become mature, it does not represent a product can meet allstandards, so it is a good way to improve the effectiveness by applying appropriatedesign for each case.The proposal of design issue should be seen as another design. More and more signsshow that various new problems have been emerging in human society. The furtherunderstandings of human itself and the outside world make the functions that productsbear tend to be diversified. To look at life with a more subtle angle of view is the newway to come up with brand new designs. It will take us to observe the known lifeanew and find out deep level problems that have not been coped with well, which willbe a fundamental way of original designs.Starting from the analysis of a few design history stages of development withsignificant influence since Bauhaus, this paper gradually leads to the era developmenttrend of "micro-design". By parsing a few design thinking of "micro" viewpoint, abasic understanding for the meanings of "micro-design" is concluded. From theperspective of social factors about "micro-design", it put forward the specific reasonsleading to the formation of the concept, including new requirements for the design interms of environment, age and function values. The paper discusses the deep relationsamong human, objects and environment specifically and finds out inner logic thatsupport the "micro-design" concept successively in the analysis of "micro-design"epistemological principle. As a new method of thinking,"micro-design" will havegood role in promoting design education directly. The principles of its specificinnovation are based on the demands of correct values of life. Here, it lists severalinnovative thinking methods which are different from conventions such as themandala thinking method, the nonlinear thinking and the adaptive unconsciousr eflection in order to form various accurate and practical "micro-design". The part we discussed above discusses the "micro-design" concept by enclosing itsbasic meaning, historical causes, social factors, theoretical principles and educationsignificance. Then, it further discusses the concrete application process of"micro-design" methodology from the practice of the author himself. It mainlyunfolds around two parts of "resolution of design problems" and "proposal of designproblems". The part of "resolution of design problems" introduces the creative processof "micro-design" in detail with the purpose of helping people understand the specificapplication process of "micro-design". The part of "proposal of design problems" doesclassification and summarization concretely on the products with thinking perspectiveof "micro-design" which are collected by author and hopes to inspire designprofessionals to have more innovative ideas."Micro-design" is not only a new point of view, but also represents a new value ideaof life. It should be a kind of culture which can guide the design practices in thefuture.
