Located in the innermost Eurasia,Xinjiang,China,has been the hub of cultural exchange and communication between east and west since ancient times.In recent years,with the mummies unearthed from Tarim Basin,study of prehistoric civilization of Xinjiang has become the new academic hotspot.Due to the dry weather and salty soil environment,amounts of textile and fur costumes have been preserved for thousands of years,unveiling the mystery of the Xinjiang prehistoric costumes for us.Based on the prehistoric textiles and garments undergrounded from Xinjiang,the dissertation divides Xinjiang prehistoric costume remains into three stages,early stage,middle stage and late stage.Through the chronological and classified study of the clothes,headgear and footwear,the thesis gives a systematic analysis on the style,structure,technology and decorative motives of prehistoric costumes in Xinjiang.And based on all above,the paper discusses the initial cultural exchanges in Eurasia which is reflected by the prehistoric costumes unearthed from Xinjiang.The thesis includes eight parts and the main content is as follows: the first and the second part summarize the motivation of the research,the domestic and international research status,spatial and temporal backgrounds as well as the stage division and geographical distribution of main costume remains of prehistoric Xinjiang.The third part takes the costume material as study object,classifying felt,fur,woolen cloth,wool knitting,etc,introducing the texture characteristics,technological means,dyeing processing and decorative patterns and so forth,which serve as the basis of the overall analysis.The forth part is based on the prehistoric costume of Xinjiang,which is the key point of the thesis.It studies the costumes of early,middle and late period of prehistoric Xinjiang in various periods and categories and analyzes the style,structure,craftsmanship and decoration features;On the basis of this,this part summarizes the elusive rules of the costume‘s shape and structure.The fifth part focuses on the prehistoric headgear in Xinjiang,also discusses the style,structure and technology according to the early,middle and late stages,presumes and recovers the production method of earflap hat,straight-edge hat,high-peak hat,and other hat categories in order to give a systematic introduction of the prehistoric hats of Xinjiang.The sixth part bases on the theme of footwear,analyzing the style,structure,craftsmanship and decoration characteristics of the early,middle and late stages of pre-history of Xinjiang and discussing the potential path of its development.The seventh part,on the basis of the comprehensive analysis of clothes,headgear and footwear,with the background of Eurasia as a whole,probes into the early cultural interaction phenomenon of costumes of Eurasia and analyzes the potential cultural broadcasting path behind the prehistoric costumes.The eighth part is the conclusion of the thesis,concluding the basic development rules of the clothes,headgear and footwear of prehistoric Xinjiang and interpreting its significance in the cultural exchange of early period of Eurasia.Through the overall analysis,it can be concluded as follows: 1.The mainly materials of Xinjiang prehistoric costumes such as felt,fur and woolen fabrics are primarily from livestock like cow and sheep.Residents in prehistoric Xinjiang had already mastered some clothing materials processing technology,such as spinning,weaving,tanning and felting.2.The feature and style of Prehistoric costumes in Xinjiang vary in different periods.Different styles of costumes in different periods are greatly influenced by the production technology level at that time.The development process of the costumes is from no tailor at all to careful tailor,from one piece drapery to divided top and bottom.The emergence of trousers shows the influence of early migrations of horse-riding nation in Eurasian,which is the landmark event of the development process of the Xinjiang prehistoric costumes.The development of headgear and footwear has strong local characteristics,and shows great diversity with the development of time.Its structure and craft reflect the characteristics of technological progress.3.The form and style of prehistoric costume in Xinjiang are based on the dressing culture of native residents and combine the cultural influence from west,and east,among which the influence of west is bigger than east and the costume and decorative patterns are embodied with rich cultural exchange features.
