Abstract/Summary:
Scope of Study. This dissertation examined the job satisfaction of United States Air Force officers assigned to the Air Force Logistics Command (AFLC) Career Broadening Program. The AFLC Career Broadening Program is a three year management training program conducted at five Air Logistics Centers (ALCs): Ogden, Oklahoma City, Sacramento, San Antonio, and Warner Robins. The study measured and analyzed the job satisfaction of 57 Air Force officers. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), Short Form, was used to gather the necessary data. The MSQ has three scales for job satisfaction: extrinsic, intrinsic, and general. Job satisfaction of the officers was compared to the MSQ norms and between various groupings of the officers. The officers were grouped according to their respective ALCs of assignment, their logistics career fields, their military ranks, their academic degrees, and by various categories of longevity in the program.;Findings and Conclusions. The T-test and one-way analysis of variance statistical techniques were used to determine whether significant differences existed between officers' mean scores on the MSQ and the MSQ norms and between groups (categories) of officers. It was determined that the officers' mean score for extrinsic job satisfaction was significantly higher (at the 0.01 alpha level) than the MSQ norm. Officers assigned to Oklahoma City ALC scored significantly lower than the MSQ norm on the intrinsic (at the 0.01 alpha level) and general (at the 0.05 alpha level) job satisfaction scales. Their mean scores were also significantly lower (at the 0.05 alpha level), on the intrinsic and general job satisfaction scales, than the mean scores of the other officers in the program. Officers assigned to San Antonio ALC scored significantly higher (at the 0.05 alpha level) than the MSQ norm for each MSQ scale. Their mean scores were also significantly higher (at the 0.05 alpha level), on the intrinsic and general job satisfaction scales, than the mean scores for other officers in the program.
