Abstract/Summary:
Purpose. This study seeks answers to two research questions: (1) Are there significant differences between audiovisual administrator and library administrator attitudes concerning the administrative integration of print and non-print resource units in university environments? (2) Is there a relationship between the educational background of audiovisual and library administrators and their attitudes toward the administrative integration of print and non-print resource units?;The instruments were mailed to all 196 administrators during fall 1985. A total of 164 instruments were returned. Out of 164 responses, 150 were used to test the first question; and 147 were used to test the second question.;Conclusions. A regression analysis of the response data indicated, at a probability level of .0001, that there are significant attitudinal differences between audiovisual administrators and library administrators toward the administrative integration.;A correlational analysis of the same data to determine the direction of attitudinal differences revealed, at a probability level of .0001, that the library administrators have more favorable attitudes toward integration.;Procedures. A survey instrument to measure the attitudes of administrators and to solicit information on their educational background was constructed and validated through a pilot study process. With the aid of the membership directory of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology, 104 audiovisual administrators with university wide administrative responsibilities were identified. Using the American Library Directory, 92 library administrators employed at the same institutions were identified.;A regression analysis of the data, to seek an answer to the second research question, indicated at a probability level of .0006, that there is a significant relationship between the educational background and the integration attitudes held by the administrators. The administrators who have had training in both audiovisual and library fields have more favorable attitudes.
