The development of emotional competencies occurs across many environments in a child's life. Research suggests that adequate development of a child's emotional intelligence leads to confident decision making and has a positive impact on student academic success (CASEL, 2013a, 2013b; Goleman, 2005; Landau & Meirovich, 2011 Larocque, Kleiman, & Darling, 2011). An active partnership between educators and parents/guardians promotes a continuum of positive supports for students developing healthy social-emotional learning behaviors transferable in college and careers.;The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the partnerships between parents/guardians and school districts when promoting college/career readiness concerning social/emotional competencies in adolescents (Stake, 1995; Strauss & Corbin, 1998). The data presented and analyzed in this research study suggests that an active partnership between parents/guardians and school districts contributes to the development of emotional competencies as a student becomes college and career ready.;Collaboratively espousing the importance of social-emotional learning and an active partnership maximizes success for students and fosters a transition after high school. To better support the needs of school districts and families, high schools could implement a framework for a successful college and career ready student, specially focused on an active parental partnership.
