Abstract/Summary:
Since the time of the Renaissance, Western culture has been helped/hindered by the mind/body split and the resulting reductionism of the Cartesian worldview. Psychotherapy, systemic or otherwise, has not escaped this influence. As a result, Spirituality, or anything else seen as mysterious, has been intentionally avoided or deleted from scientific discourse. Using cybernetic principles, Creative Spirituality offers an alternative epistemology of connection over one of separation and reductionism. Seven tenets of Creative Spirituality are offered to demonstrate recursion in interactions and establish a language of relationship. By examining transcriptions of two case studies, Creative Spirituality offers examples of embodied spirit that emerge during therapeutic discourse. The resulting embodied spirit, springing forth from co-created interactions between therapist and client, is the catalyst for transformative change.
