Abstract/Summary:
The first of these essays concerns the theory and history of the use of statistical and econometric evidence in Title VII and wrongful discharge cases. It explores the adequacy of the economic theory which underlies commonly used econometric evidence in such cases. Whether the evidence adduced is probative of any relevant fact is questioned.;The effect the system of land tenure has on the prices of sustainable yield products of the rain forest is considered in the next of these essays. A critical analysis of the way present value analysis is used in many recent studies finding that the rain forest ought to be preserved because of the value of these sustainable yield products finds that the typical analysis is inadequate on several counts.;The last of these essays considers the effect of externalities on efforts to preserve the rain forest. The suggestion is made that the rain forest is not an example of a pure public good and goes on to recommend a Clarke tax mechanism to those who desire a different level of rain forest preservation than is presently in prospect.
