Abstract/Summary:
This study was a needs assessment that focused on exploring the effects that preterm birth has on parents and the type of services provided to parents in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Through the use of an open-ended survey completed by NICU nurses, results yielded that there is a need for a focus on mental health services for parents in NICU settings. This study explored integrated care health models used that incorporate psychologists into traditional health care settings. Secondly, this study addressed how to incorporate components of these models into NICU settings based on the unique issues experienced by NICU families and staff.
