Abstract/Summary:
The degree to which one is able to maintain a sufficient quality of life depends on one's ability to acquire and/or maintain adequate income. As older adults move closer to retirement and inevitably age out of the workforce, the ability to compete successfully for high paying jobs decreases. The purpose of the study was to examine hiring practices towards adult 55 years and older; examine the perception of age and hire-ability, review trends towards adults 55 years and older re-entering the workplace. One-hundred and three participants between the ages of 24 and 70 participated in the study. Findings suggest a significant difference in the employment rates of adults 25 to 54 and 55 and older.
