Abstract/Summary:
This study was done to explore the feasibility of providing solar energy, at a household level using photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, to three states in northern Nigeria. Nigeria is a country that is limited by political and economic uncertainties as well as lack of a constant supply of energy (electricity), as 75 percent of the populace has no access to it. Solar energy would be an alternative that could help in enhancing government rural development initiatives and creation of job opportunities.;Quantitative research was used to determine various forms of feasibility. This research method showed the degree of achievability of supplying solar energy to the region. In addition, it assisted in determining how accessible solar energy could be as an alternative to hydro and fossil fuel energy.;The aim of the study was to determine the economic, technical, operational and legal viability of using solar energy in the northern region of Nigeria. To actually determine the practicality of this project in practice, there was the need to have a comparison of some expected metric against the observed metric. Findings from the study support the generation of informed decisions for stakeholders to improve the use of sustainable energy in Nigeria through enactments of favorable laws and policies to attract investors in renewable energy.
