Abstract/Summary:
The study compared a recreational art program to a recreational exercise program in Northwest Arkansas. The study explored differences in creative self-efficacy and intrinsic leisure motivation between adults participating in two different recreation environments. A quasi-experimental design was utilized with a pretest and a posttest. The two intact groups consisted of a total of 43 adults. Findings indicated a significant difference in creative self-efficacy and intrinsic leisure motivation gain scores for the recreational art group. An ANCOVA procedure revealed when gender was included in the model it accounted for enough of the variance to make group membership significant. Findings from this study can be replicated in other recreational art environments to measure and further validate the benefits of recreational art programs.
