Abstract/Summary:
In today's competitive and highly volatile marketplace, IT has become a value-added resource and an integral part of an organization's activities. As organizations and markets continue to be dynamic, marketplaces continue to be highly competitive, and information technology continues to change rapidly, the flexibility of an information technology infrastructure becomes even more important. As organizations become more complex, understanding what organization characteristics impact IT and how the impact affects organizational performance and effectiveness is critical.; This study presents a model for examining the effect of the fit between traits of organizational culture and factors of ITIF on firm performance and information systems effectiveness. The study uses PLS latent variable modeling to analyze the data collected from mid- to large-sized firms in the southeastern United States to examine the effects of the fit as well as empirically examine the relationship between traits of organizational culture and firm performance and the factors of ITIF and IS effectiveness.; The findings of this study suggest that a number of significant relationships exist. Organizational culture seemed to have a significant impact on firm performance with adaptability having a significant direct relationship to firm performance. ITIF showed a significant relationship to IS effectiveness with both integration and technical knowledge and skills showing significant direct relationships with IS effectiveness. In addition, the path from IS effectiveness to firm performance was significant. The only fit that showed a significant relationship with one of the dependent variables was the Integration-Technical Knowledge and Skills fit. It showed to be positively correlated with IS effectiveness. These results provide valuable information to scholars and practitioners alike providing a framework for future research and evidence that can lead to prescriptive conclusions for practitioners.
