Abstract/Summary:
Recent technological advances in opto-electronic devices have enabled the creation of a real-time holographic recording and display system. As an alternative to traditional holographic recording materials, the novel recording system offers the capability of capturing an optical interference pattern and displaying the information as a hologram in real-time.; This new recording system is functional over a wide range of optical wavelengths, requires no external development or fixing processes, has vast storage capability and is fast, inexpensive and reusable. This novel system, its operation, its ability to reconstruct images from holograms in real-time and its integration into an optical correlator are described in this dissertation. Holograms of several binary, gray-scale and small three-dimensional objects were created and the images were reconstructed in real-time. Autocorrelations were also performed with some simple scenes.
