Abstract/Summary:
A CMOS smart sensor controller is an intelligent system that acquires and analyzes sensor data. The objective of this research is to create a low cost reliable smart sensor controller. The monolithic smart sensor controller is fully self-testing and monitors multiple sensors for enhanced data reliability. The monolithic aspect allows the functionality to be placed in the controller. This off loads overhead from the primary controller and significantly reduces bus activity.; The smart sensor controller is created by five major subsystems. The subsystems include the analog interface, analog-to-digital converter, data path, micro sequencer, and the host computer interface. The smart sensor controller operates at 10MHz with a {dollar}pm{dollar} 5 volt DC supply. The fault coverage for the design is 99.79%. Presently, the controller chip will communicate with the host computer via a parallel data bus.
